Auburn runs more power out of the spread than anything.

We ran between the tackles 16 times in the 4th against A&M.

16 times!

Usually it isn't even out of the spread. Often it is from the inverted veer and sometimes the team gives an initial spread look but then shifts players into the backfield pre snap.

AU has a power running game it's looks different and atleast start off looking different.

This is really no different than the people who still think Alabama is all power running. They can pass the ball just as well.

Anybody that thinks Gus runs a finesse O doesn't know football. He plays power/smash mouth football.

I think our defensive coordinator have an apt description of his offense in his meeting with the media after practice yesterday.

quote:

“It's a multiple attack,” Ash said. “They will attack you down hill with powers, counters, down-hill zones and then they can attack the perimeter with outside plays. They've got speed to get to the edge and get around you even if you've got leverage so we have got to do a good job of keeping the ball in front of us, get off blocks and get great pursuit and tackle.”

Ash was asked about the success Arkansas' defensive line, particularly Trey Flowers, had against Auburn in last year's game. Ash downplayed that as far as this year's game is concerned. “Last year is so far away from we are right now,” Ash said. “Auburn is a completely different team. Last spring I looked at Auburn when we were first here and studying SEC offenses. When you see Auburn's offensive line now compared to last year it's not even close. They're not the same team.

“Of all the offenses I've been able to defense the past few years not a lot of people run the true down-hill zone read like they do any more. So it's a unique challenge. “It's a little bit different challenge for our guys they haven't necessarily seen this style of offense this year.”

I thought a spread was just how you lined up. As in you spread your players across the field. We do that, so I still say we run a spread. But most spread teams are pass first, to set up the run. Auburn spreads the defense out and runs it in all sorts of ways like power behind the H back, zone reads, triple options, jet sweeps, and other fun things. I wouldn't define it as a power running game either though, it has that mixed in.

I have never understood why it actually matters what type of offense you run. Power, spread, gimmick, trick, finesse or whatever it may be. The offenses job is to score and the defenses job is top stop it. Simple as that. If you can't stop it, stop complaining and get to work on defensive strategy. Games are played by strategy.

I guess it makes fans feel better if they call "gimmick" when they lose to said teams.

I really like Auburn's offense. That said, using a play against that A&M defense to make this point is hilarious. A&M's defense is what would happen if we could get 11 Jake Hollands out there.

It only matters because Auburn fans react when someone calls it finesse. If Auburn fans didn't react, it would stop being a thing. Just like when Arkansas got so bad that people stopped responding to their troll threads. They reduced making them.
