Sure, there might be some athletic fellas getting together once in awhile and playing a pick-up game in a park somewhere with a few scattered friends watching on.
But there wouldn’t be any importance and none of the “opportunities” for the student athletes without the people who are interested enough to shell out big money and spend the time so they can watch it. Opportunities for what? An NFL without “fans”?
That's what so many entertainers (and i guess the OP) don't seem to grasp. The only value they provide is entertainment, Their value is set by the consumer's (fan's) interests. This goes beyond athletics. This applies to all forms of entertainment, whether it me music, film, whatever. To say, "who cares what the consumer wants" is ignorant at best. Entertainers don't provide actual value to anything if there is no consumer (fan) interest. The entire market value of a football player is based on whether or not the market wants to watch them play. They don't produce anything tangible for society. If fans stop caring/watching, their market value becomes essentially nothing.
So yeah, to say it doesn't matter what the fans think is short-sighted if not retarded. The only reason networks pay billions to cover the sport, that schools have cathedrals to host football games, that college players and pro players get paid millions of dollars to play a game in front of spectators is soley because the market says the fans like watching the product.

You couldn’t be more incorrect. The fans is what makes it. Without them none of this exists.
If the “adults” weren’t so obsessive about money and winning and entertainment, you might actually have “real students” playing college football.
The sport would certainly exist without all the attention, just like it does at countless small high schools out in the sticks. But since the adults have perverted the game with greed and win-at-all-costs attitudes, I fully support the players in taking advantage of it.
College football IS for the benefit of the students - regardless of how loosely that term is used in this day and age.

OP is ignorant. OP thinks that college football would still exist without fans to watch it. OP thinks these gutter thugs would still be making millions without fans to watch it.
OP is retarded.

This might be the single dumbest post I’ve seen on tRant and I’ve seen a lot of stupid shite.
College football is more than just the game. It’s the tailgate, the rivalries, the campus culture, the pregame, the band, the traditions, and the people.
If you make this just about the players and money then you kill all that is college football. No player or group of players should be forced above all of that.

The heart of college football still beats in the FCS.
The players still play for school, for love of the game and for pride.

It would certainly still exist with minimal attention. Many, many schools have football teams without 100,000 seat stadiums, appearances on ESPN, and eight figure coaching salaries.

They would not. But you can blame yourselves for the fact that they do.

Most NILs are funded by regular fans ouside of big boosters.

Students? Lmao. They’re the furthest thing from students now. Hired guns. Just another pro league.
In football for the top dogs, yeah, it’s a pro farm league now. But that may be OK …when lots of sidewalk bubbas are happy with your state college football team, college academics get better protected in state legislatures…
As you get more and more into other college sports including women’s sports and “Olympic Sports,” a lot of those young athletes are well rounded students too…
