Virginia, Michigan and UNC are public universities and also provide similar aid that Vanderbilt does. It can be done.

Virginia as a public school must disclose and define "economic need" where as Candy being private does not. Do you really believe the baseball players signed by Candy need aide? Maybe to pay stupid tuition at Candy but not to cover tuition and Costas at the average SEC institution.

Corbin looks great because all other Candy teams SUCK.

Does most of Vandy's talent come from Tenn ? Look at schools like Auburn and Alabama, their talent has to come from the State or those non-scholarhip players have to pay OOS tuition. Hard to compete with that for OOS players who live in states with the Lotto. How many of the UGA players are on Hope Scholarships? Which allows the University to give more than partial scholarships to OOS recruits.

I didn’t know that. Thanks!

Why can’t our schools with our endowments do something similar?

Nobody accused Corbin of breaking rules. We are simply pointing out he is good at utilizing loop hoops in rules that allows a private school like Vanderbilt to have an environment where they have more than 11.8 schollys.

It is not private vs public it is any school building up their endowmwents which is why TAMU can buy the best football recruiting class. Face it Stanford buys the Directors Cup with endowments while Southern Cal just flat out cheats and breaks the rules.

To offset the difference between private and public tuition is one thing. To fully fund is something entirely different and an unfair advantage.

The three publics you list are required to prove the recipient actually qualified for the need based aid.

Candy called it need based but does have to define, describe or disclose.

Not happening. Vanderbilt baseball players are taking out and paying back students loans as well.

You’re gonna have to show your work here. Vanderbilt uses FAFSA just like everyone else to show need.

Not true.

FAFSA is for participation in the gov't student loan program. It only applies to gov't back student loans.

An endowment scholarship can be given out willy nilly to any Tom, Dick or Harry. The endowment makes up the rules and can "adjust" the rules whenever, however.

Opportunity Vanderbilt is the reason Cornin would never and will never leave.

FAFSA absolutely has to be filled out for Vanderbilt aid. A quick search of Vanderbilt admission info would confirm that for you.

So FAFSA is used to determine need. Some public schools have figured out how to defray the costs. The blueprint is there and it’s the right thing to do.

Just because FAFSA is submitted doesn't mean it's factored.

Additional endowment support is self regulated.

Just because a college kid accepts student loans doesn't mean he really needs the money. Many accept the loan money to live high on the hog. Not truly understanding the debt factor.
