false. But I don't think it matters if you are 1 or 2... They are both coming into college as great prospects. Still have a lot to prove. Just cause you were good in HS doesn't mean it translates. For both prospects.

You can't seriously be giving LSU a hard time about moral victories.

You're batshit crazy if you think Kyle is louder
After the construction is complete, it very well may be.
1927-2013 Kyle Field had the noise escape straight up.

Did they decommission the "Spirit of 1902"?

Apparently it won't be in the New Kyle.
Yes, I am still irked by this news.

Kyle may have the potential to be louder, but what does it matter if the fans don't make use of it.
I do think the new stadium should put TAMU above Bama and UGA in noise.

Yes.

With the current $450 million renovations to Kyle Field, the stadium will be closed in for the first time in it's history with canopies placed over the east and west decks, making Kyle Field not only the largest stadium in Texas and the SEC, but also a strategically engineered noise trap. In an effort to prevent deafening concussion effects of firing a 76mm field gun inside of an enclosed stadium, the Spirit of '02 was decommissioned and placed in the Quad to be used for Step Off and March-In.
New Kyle Field 105mm Howitzer, to be permanently mounted outside the SE corner and fired for touchdowns.
Per the Commandant:
quote:
Joe Ramirez
Just to set the record straight, there will be a new cannon placed outside the southeast end of the newly renovated Kyle Field next year that will fire whenever the team scores. It will be permanently located there, and we are looking at ways to secure it permanently outside the stadium. It will be an M101A1, 105mm cannon, (any Marines out there may remember it) and is currently being refurbished by a gentleman in Navasota. We are going to purchase it, but the Class of '15 is considering buying it as a class gift. More to follow on that. The one thing James DID get right is that because the newly renovated stadium is enclosed completely, we cannot shoot the Spirit of 02 inside the stadium any more due to exceeding safe decibel levels when it fires. Thus the need to fire the cannon OUTSIDE the stadium when the team scores. We decided to buy a new cannon that could be on permanent display outside the newly renovated stadium (near the east plaza) at all times, and fired during the games. 12th Man Foundation is going to run a live feed of the game to the cannon crew outside the stadium (with a TV mounted on a mobile platform) so they will know when to fire the cannon (we'll also have a crew member talking to the right folks on head sets, as we do now). The Spirit of 02 will STILL be used for all other functions, and will continue to fire for all the events it currently shoots at, including step-off, ring day, races, etc. It will also still march-in with the Cav during game days. Still working details, but thats the plan, in a nutshell. The new cannon won't be ready until Nov, so the Spirit of 02 will continue to shoot for games until then. Feel fee to call me if you have any more questions about the cannon for next football season. Thanks and Gig 'em!
…
The Museum of the American GI is the organization currently restoring the 105mm that we will use at Kyle Field. The owners son is currently in the Corps. They are great folks and great supporters of the Corps.
