dude, it's not like LSU is shooting into a bigger rim.

I know the OP was but I was not talking about LSU. I'm referring to cheating in college sports in general and this old notion that cheating is ok and acceptable. It is not to me.

LSU's situation was just laughably dumb on your coach's part no matter who all you tried to blame it on.

Of course it was dumb. Rookie mistake. IMO he won't ever get caught again. It's gonna end up being a good thing that he got caught on the wiretap at such a young age.

Elite Football and Basketball players are not going to any school that does not provide benefits (benefits that do not fall under NCAA guidelines) for them and their family. Period.

The only exceptions to this are players like Peyton and Eli Manning that have Rich Daddies.

Anyone that thinks otherwise is a damn Fool.

I could not agree more.

I just have always thought it extra shitty to cheat in a game because it's...A GAME...-- be that playing spades, pool, college basketball etc. It truly, in my mind, takes away from the fun and most definitely from the accomplishment.

Not to mention that we're talking about educational institutions teaching our kids that cheating is okay. That's fricked up, imo.

Cheating, in sports and games, means breaking the rules.

Does it, though?

Cheating is defined as gaining an advantage. If everyone breaks the rules, is it really cheating?

It's also defined as acting dishonestly or unfairly to gain an advantage. If everyone did it, then there'd be no need for a rule. What's the purpose of having rules if you justify breaking them?

Not justifying, just playing semantics. Cheating, to me, implies doing something beyond what everyone else is doing. I'm not arguing right vs wrong, just that cheating is not the same as rule breaking

Everyone who gets highly recruited players in Football and Basketball are providing benefits that the NCAA would frown upon. Everyone.

And that's breaking the rules, but not necessarily cheating.

Heck, you could break the rules and make your team worse, not better. There have been times when coaches have provided illegal benefits to players just because it was the right thing to do. Is that really "cheating"

I don't deny that, although I do think most of the "top programs" take it further.

Ironically, because you're a LSU fan, I've always respected LSU for winning big without having as much baggage. At least when you look at the number of violations for SEC teams, LSU is near the bottom of that list. That's something you should be proud of, imo.
