Georgia will never have the economic power that Texas has. And Atlanta is not on the level of Austin when it comes to the tech industry. We have a much more diverse economy than your state does

Atlanta has surpassed Austen in tech at the ninth largest high tech economy in the nation compared to 16th in Austen, has surpassed Houston and Dallas in banking and finance (nearly 70% of financial transactions worldwide go through institutions in Atlanta) and Los Angeles and New York in the film industry. No landlocked city in the world can claim to have more shipping than Atlanta and only 2 with a port in the US...Los Angeles and Chicago...has more shipping than Atlanta. Atlanta has more colleges and universities than any city in the south outside of Texas and is 8th behind #7 Houston and #6 Dallas (nationally). Houston and Atlanta are comparable with Houston getting a slight nod in most categories...they are the true economic engines of the south but Houston is marginally southern. Dallas is more akin to Chicago and Detroit. Both Houston and Dallas are serious places for serious people but neither represent the single regional power in their respective regions that Atlanta has in the south.

Houston is not a bridge to much. It is a big, jumbled, immigrant packed industrial town that benefitted from being on top of the origins of the global oil industry.

Culturally Houston is a bridge between the south east and the sw/moutain states. Dallas has more of a midwest "feel" than Houston or Atlanta and certainly more so than other metro areas in the south. Otherwise Atlanta, Houston and Dallas are very similar...but only Atlanta is as dominant in its region because Dallas and Houston are nearly neighbors, at least in texas terms where a 2 hour drive for a gallon of milk is not unheard of...

As a guy born and raised in Dallas who has lived all over the Midwest, I still disagree as I think do most people. I am not sure how you define Midwest culture or feel but very obvious differences:

1) Dallas lacks Midwestern cultural informality and modesty.

2) Dallas metro has a much more conservative political culture

3) Dallas is historically less diverse than most Midwest cities. That has changed rapidly with a huge influx of Indians, Africans, and lots of other folks.

4) Different cuisine

5) Lack of the longer Midwestern history

6) Despite it being somewhat fake, the Southwestern Cowboy culture is pretty much non-existent in Midwest states but central to the Dallas identity, even if most of that action took place over in Ft. Worth.

7) The Dallas business climate is much more investor friendly and entrepreneurial

Entire state of Georgia has gone downhill since you fricks let the democrats take over Georgia. It was already bad enough with Atlanta, but now your entire state will turn to shite with people running it like you have in Atlanta.

It is amazing what some of you will argue about on a board that is supposed to be dedicated to SEC sports.

A&M grads seem to do a lot better career wise than UGA grade according to recent reports. Texas is a huge state compared to Georgia. I've lived in Texas since I graduated college and A&M isn't a diploma mill. The state forces A&M to accept students in top 10% who have taken the required advanced high school courses. Then after general admisssion, prospective students have to apply to the college that houses the major they hope to study (ex: engineering or business). Engineering takes it one step further- students must complete required courses their freshman year and then apply for their desired engineering major- ex: chemical, petroleum, electrical, civil, computer, etc. My kid is going there in the Fall and all of the high school classmates attending A&M are also kids who have above 4.0 gpa, lots of AP classes, gifted and talented program, etc. In Texas, the smart kids go to A&M, UTa, and Rice.

It’s harder to get into UGA presently. And your kid is probably gay.

Dallas and Houston are hardly "nearly neighbors". They are at least 4 hours apart or more depending on what part of the city you're going to. And nobody drives 2 hours to get milk in Texas. Give me a break. Additionally, there is nothing Midwest about Dallas. It would be like saying Atlanta has a very west coast feel.

My kid is far from gay. I think post grad career opportunities and earning potential is more important than which school is "harder to get into". A&M has proven to have the edge in that regard.

You are correct regarding how A&M and UTex handle admissions.

Local Houston kids cannot get into Rice. There seems to be a bias towards out of state or international applicants.

So they are going to the state schools also.
