I get that he passed at 21-19 because of the false start, but at 21-26 with seconds to go, there's no real difference between a 5 or 6 pt lead.
Imo, AU should've gone for two at 26-21, but not when down 21-19. If you don't take the easy PAT kick and fail to make the 2-pt try, you're still down by 2 at 21-19. Then if Oregon scores 7, you're down by 9 points at 28-19, whereby you can't tie it up with a TD and 2-pt conversion.

why did he pull a less Miles and throw to the endzone when a Field Goal would have won it?

I said the same thing when it happened. Auburn made tons of mental errors and somehow escaped with a win. They didnt deserve to win

Making the FG isn't guaranteed. It was smart to run that TD pass play. If you get the TD, they can't beat you with a FG. If nobody gets open, throw it away and kick it.

In the 2017 Bama vs UGA playoff game, Bama used 2 running plays to spend clock and set up a walk-off FG to win. Missed the FG and went to overtime. Imo, they should've run at least one pass play to see if anyone got open for a TD.

This is correct. You dont go for 2 at 21-19 but it was a mistake not to go for 2 in the end drive

the other team misses an extra point kick
while I agree it was a mistake, their kicker was a freshman that had already missed an easy field goal. I think everyone on the Auburn sideline got caught up in the moment, and without a timeout they couldn’t get a 2 point conversion play dialed up in time

You still go for two with the unsportsmanlike. Yes, you have to try from further back, but that negates the penalty on the kick off.

It was a bonehead decision that cannot be well-defended. It could have cost Auburn the game. Luckily, it did not.

Both times he should've gone for two. They nearly lost by 1 when the game could've been tied. I guess it was like Cortez burning the ships to motivate his men though I think Gus was just that pissed over the false start and couldn't think straight.

Bo Nix bailed him out.

But that Auburn D shut down the Ducks late and gave Nix the opportunity.

It's amazing how much deja vu there was in that ending. Almost feel bad for the Ducks. Helluva game.

Oregon nearly running back the kickoff and getting that great position almost fricked Gus in the butt.

Fortunately for Gus, Justin Herbert nearly threw it into the seats. Justin's short game needs work. Sailed it over the green.

I did see and I knew it was going to be a penalty. I get it that he was excited but costing your team 15 yards and possibly the game is not worth it. As I said just give the ball to the official and then celebrate.
