I have no idea. But for starters I'd assume you pay per semester. Not annually.
Obviously.

For finance purposes, you use annual income/expense numbers.

Me too. It hurt LSU's credit rating which makes funding big projects more expensive.

Helps today but hurts bad tomorrow.

Oh I readily admit I don't know what they're charging. No longer in school there. Just saying your math is likely wrong. I did Google and found a $45 fee for undergraduate, graduate, and vet students that went towards "sports recreation". Whether that's the fee in question I'm not sure.

It looks like a negative all the way around. I'm all for trying to save the budget, but trying to go the nuke route was stupid. These articles crying about the lazy river are stupid, but that is something that should be expected. LSU has failed at getting out in front of that and correcting people on the actual cost and how it was funded, and when it was funded.

LSU would have been much better off using its alums to strike a back room deal to save some of its budget at the expense of the schools that can't pull their own weight.

i'm 100 percent behind cutting useless majors as far as they can be cut. If a major wants to avoid the ax then i suggest alums from those programs throw some money up to save them.

I think the LSU President was running off at the mouth on his own. Surely the LSU Board didn't tactically engineer the President's bankruptcy speech to the media? Political posturing I have not problem with, but to run off at the mouth with scare tactics and allow the media to run with it like they have was a poor decision by the LSU Administration.

As has been said ad nauseum, only about 11% of LSU's total budget for all 4 of it's campuses and the Pennington Biomedical Complex comes from State of La. funding.
I think Alexander is being overly frugal and financially responsible and is looking more toward the future.
When the price of oil comes back up, it will help.

Also, whenever the hell the State constitution is amended to allow 'across the board' state agency budget cuts instead of JUST health care and higher education, that would also help. Why Jindal never attempted this is a mystery.

As far as the LSU pool, fricking WHY NOT ?? It is not funded / money taken out of what the budget ramifications are, what does it matter ??

And any non-LSU fans' opinions of the pool don't really MATTER now, do they ????????????

Why should he? It's going on 6 pages and people are discussing the topic without being angry. Seems like a successful discussion of a topic SC wanted to know more about.

I've said it in other threads, he should have been terminated for it the second they had to delay those construction projects.

I haven't had a lot of time to pay attention to sports lately, and know nothing about the bankruptcy thing, but, damn, I like that "lazy river" pool. It might not have been cost-effective, but it looks cool.

I'm sure you're bright enough to divide $85M by four, then Google and learn that LSU has approximately 30,000 students.

Heck, you might even be bright enough to use any of a number of online amortization tools and figure out what the monthly payment on a $60M mortgage at 3% for 20 years would be.

Seriously, though...does anyone else know how much the special assessment was per student?

Exactly, and several major alums would cut a check if necessary. This is just people trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill

Or something should have happened when the credit rating changed. That is a huge huge deal for a major institution.

I think both sides are wrong. Ranters are wrong this will matter to anything LSU football or SEC short term. But LSUers are wrong that this isn't a big deal. Even if it's just posturing, it will provably cost LSU millions down the road.

Total speculation here, but I remember paying "student recreation" fees back in the 80's. Over the years, some things have been built, but then you go years without anything other than maintenance and operation of those things.

My guess is that there is a pretty significant pool of funds (no pun intended), and every so often you get a new project.

Also my guess is that a good bit of funding will come from donations to the student recreation fund from "outside sources", money that was never intended to go to any academic side of the university.

Hey. I miss y'all too. Once football season starts, I will explain very carefully to everyone I know that I care less about them than football. If they don't understand, they were never good enough to be in my life anyway.

In Texas if they don't understand we call them females. And who needs them?

Hope you are doing well. Looking forward to your future Mason observations, and I would love to hear your thoughts on the dumpster fire that is Florida!.

The season will be here soon.
