In all seriousness, that could be the difference.
Maybe the beef there is local (which would make sense), and shipped or not as quality-controlled elsewhere.
Because that's the part I've never been impressed with.

Brother there was nothing and i mean nothing that hit like a justaburger with cheese with that last $1.89 you scrounged up in your truck as you leave the South Padre Island Whataburger after a day of debauchery on the beach. Growing up in the valley was awesome.

As a native and lifelong Texan I can’t help but feel that whataburger isn’t as good as it used to be ever since they were bought.

Whataburger is vastly overrated. Or at least is wildly inconsistent. You can order the exact same thing from two different locations, and one will be delicious and one will be borderline inedible. Yeah, all chains but Chikfila are inconsistent, but Whataburger takes it to a different level.
ETA: and stealing someone else’s idea. This is for burger chains in the South.

They have one in Monticello Ga kinda randomly. They are expanding into east TN next year with a Cleveland TN location.
And the chicken is pretty good. Kinda a rare combination of good food at a decent price. I usually hit them when I drive to Ga for Pibb Xtra.

Baldwin County, Lee County, Montgomery County in Alabama all have them. Several in ATL as you said. At least one if not more in Nashville.
