As I said, MS has plenty of faults, but it has way plenty of beautiful places to visit. I did see someone saying MS was horrible - reading their post, they were bitching about not having any "opportunity" unless you know someone. Sounds like dude had a problem with a job and he moved to MN. I work 100% remotely from home right here in MS for a company whose HQ is in MN. LOL

Well, if you want to slam MS on being "just about dead last" in those areas, are you gonna slam the other states as well that are "just about dead last" in those areas?

The Blues trail has been a huge national as well as international success bringing in tourists from all around the world. The state is respected internationally moreso than nationally for shaping the music of the 20th century. Your ignorance is not suprising. The delta has some of the best duck hunting in the world with leases going in upwards of 10k a member. Oxford itself has been mentioned so many times by highly notable publications for livability and tourism and many times at no.1 that it's just expected at this point. Your original post said we contributed nothing at all and now your crawfishimg your argument to focus on tourism as having nothing at all in the way of appeal and your wrong here as well.

Burnside, one guy has got you worked up. Most Southerners like Mississippi. Nice place and good people.

Also, does the Burnside stand for Burnside Island?

GA- Atl has tons to do by itself
FL- Disney and beaches
TN- beautiful mountains, Nashville, tourist spots like Chatt and Pigeon forge
SC- charleston, hilton head, great golf
KY- horse raising and the home of bourbon
MO- pro sports teams and good BBQ, famous national landmark
AL- talladega, music festival on the beach, a resurgent downtown area
AR- beautiful outdoors especially in the NW
LA- New Orleans mostly
TX- many big cities and pro sports teams

That leaves MS. There's biloxi like I mentioned which is probably the #1 draw. It has a beach which 6 of the other states do too so it's not really unique. MS has no pro sports teams. The landscape doesn't really take it over the top compared to other bottom tier states. It's "major cities" like Jackson aren't a draw at all. It has very niche things like you said like Elvis museum but that appeals to a pretty small and targeted audience.

Again, you're taking this personal because it's ranked last, but every other state has something that can easily trump MS. It's just a fact man.

Eh..nothing about Elvis is/was ever "niche" for the record. I could easily cherry pick things out of any other southern state and label them as "niche", except for maybe the beach and mountains.

MS is also definitely not the least pretty of the southern states. There are natural wonders all over the state, including one of only two petrified forests in the eastern U.S. It also shares the Gulf Islands National Seashore with Florida. There's the little Grand Canyon at Red Bluff and MS is one of the best hunting and fishing states anywhere.

I could go on and on here.

I just rattled off 21 music artists and you laugh at one. Okay. So you don't like Jason Aldean. That's okay. There are some on the list that i don't like, either, but to say Georgia was a blip on the music scene only puts your ignorance on display for everybody to see.

Dude. You think my list was comprehensive?
And I have nothing against mississippi. My list was in reference to your snarky "blip on the music scene" remark that showed a total lack of self awareness....not surprising considering you are from Alabama and an Auburn fan.

You want to laugh at Jason Aldean and want to put SouljaBoy and Nate Dogg on your list? Most people on this board will have heard of about 10-15 people on your list.

Just admit you didn't know what you were talking about when you said Georgia had no musical history outside of the 80's.

Oh I'm plenty familiar. Has nothing to do with ignorance. I hear about Athens' much lauded music scene all.the.fricking.time. I'm just saying it ain't all that.

Well I kind of enjoy the back and forth and with Ole Miss WAOMing again, I have no sports teams to watch and am bored, that's all.

I actually love Georgia having visited my sis in law many times in Savannah, where she lived for 10 years. My bro in law and beer drinking/grilling buddy is from there and went to BC and The Citadel. I have met many great folks there and miss it.

Burnside is for R.L. Burnside, a North Mississippi Hill Country Blues artist. Check him out. It's different Blues than traditional. More grooving.

This got me thinking.. Who claims Jimmy Buffett? He was born in Mississippi, but partially raised in Alabama.

For lists like this? Both can claim them as far as I am concerned. There is something to say for background and how it plays into a performers talents, and then where they live plays a bit, too.

BTW, I was not dissing Mississippi's musical heritage like the Aubbie (TailbackU) is trying to frame it. I only made my list because he is totally ignorant about music in Georgia and said something that proved his ignorance.

And yet we are talking about an entire state, and you want to narrow the playing field? Yes. Ignorance.

Ignorance is "lack of knowledge", and that's not the case here. I would put my knowledge of music up against anyone. That said, the entire state of Georgia pales in comparison to the state of Mississippi when it comes to music. That's my opinion. Feel free to formulate your own.

You are right. I am impressed you knew that. Most people think you are saying they are stupid if you say they are ignorant of a subject, which is not the case with you. But yes. You said Georgia was a blip on the music scene in the 80's. I clearly showed where we have had a ton of music before the 80's and since the 80's.

So, either you were ignorant of the music scene in Georgia or you were just lying. One or the other.

hat said, the entire state of Georgia pales in comparison to the state of Mississippi when it comes to music. That's my opinion. Feel free to formulate your own.
And yet, that is not what you said. Now you want to go and move the goalposts instead of just admitting that you were wrong.

Here is your exact quote:

I live smack dab in the middle of these butt sniffing leg humpers. You can't tell them shite. They're so busy sitting around smelling their own farts and convincing themselves of their own bullshite, that having a rational discussion with them is damn near impossible. They were a brief blip on the music sceen in the eighties, but they haven't produced shite since then.

I think it is time for you to exit the thread or admit you didn't know what you were wrong.

Glad you did man. Check out Junior Kimbrough, North Mississippi Allstars, Kenny Brown, Robert Belfour and T Model Ford also if you like. All Hill Country Blues artists.

That's perfectly fine, and each of those has merit. If we were writing an essay on "neat things about Mississippi" all of those (and others mentioned ITT) would go in there and would be fine. The problem yall seem to overlook is that's not the essay topic at hand, it's "reasons why Mississippi is better than [other state]".

Sure MS has good things going for it, but does it have enough to trump all the good things OTHER states have going for them? I don't think so, and pretty much anyone not living in MS would agree. Check any thread about best college towns and just about every fanbase will throw their support for Athens even if they hate UGA. Notice that nobody in this thread is really coming to MS's aid other than OM/MSU fans...pretty telling I'd say.
