I thought we'd match whatever offer was made by LSU. I was wrong. However, I didn't think Baker was headed to 2.5 million and the highest paid asst around. Mizzou is not at that commitment level, and I underestimated LSU's determination to get Baker.

Mizzou may have matched or come close. It may not have mattered with his connections and history down here. The biggest one being his wife is a former LSU athlete and her family is a hour away from Baton Rouge.

To be honest, I'm not crazy about the hire. I'm sure he'll do okay, but throwing all that money at Baker seems a bit much.

If I got paid the same or more to go home. I wouldn't have to think twice about it.

You did match it. And he rejected it. Why? Probably because his wife wanted to go back to Louisiana. It happens. He was a good find for both programs. Now you have some of our money to go out and pay for his replacement. No harm, no foul.

Mizzou will be fine. I think Drink is the key your success. The more I watch him the more I am impressed. I thought he was a clown in the beginning but the more I see him the more I like. Dude has a way that makes ppl believe and come together.

Something tells me we'll hire from within and save $$$, but I could be wrong. I think Drink played a role in driving the price up because he wanted Baker for one more year. Little fluctuation in staff was a big selling point and this move damages that. Hopefully he doesn't take anyone with him.

That is the thing to be concerned with. I personally think Mizzou is poised for a shot at the CFP. If you can keep your team together either you or Ole Miss (maybe both) have a legitimate chance to get into the playoffs. The twelve team playoff opens up a lot of opportunities.

If it’s any consolation, you’re also paying over $5M in buyouts for the departing staff and around $1M in a buyout of Baker’s Mizzou contract.

It won’t be to save money. It might save money. If Drink hires internally, it will be because he thinks he has the best fit internally.

Tennessee offered him the DC position allegedly when he was still at LSU. Some hilarity ensued on the Rant.

When we hired him as Safeties coach some Mizzou fans were underwhelmed and further so when we promoted him.

In short, most of us don’t know dick.

I’m not sure you even know what I’m saying. I can sympathize with your uncertainty and the attendant anxiety. Let’s get nervous together.

It is mildly surprising. I think Mizzou chose well to match up to a point and then wish him well. Take the buyout money and either promote from within or go find another up and comer. Drink has a good thing going. Take it as a compliment as to what he's building at Mizzou.

Even aggy thinks 2.5mil for a coordinator is nuts. Especially one that isn't among the top 10 in the country..or even top 20 lol.

Hell, it happened to LSU this same season with Denbrock. Sometimes the call to go home is really strong.
