It was their toughest game, but I believe 2011 LSU and 2009 Texas (with Colt) were both better teams.

This is basically the point I'm trying to make.

But since this is an obvious troll thread, with some other troll posters taking part, there's no point.

Yes they were. This championship was the most pleasing to me personally since we worked Miami in '92.

Of course LSU only crossing the 50 once or so was nice too...

Georgia, in 2012. Everyone suspected that was the REAL national championship game.

Overall better teams perhaps. But they were not better opponents in the Championship game.

That can be interpreted in a few different ways.

As evidence by this thread.

And Clemson being a better opponent is directly correlated to Alabama not being as good, too. So really, if this thread is asking who was more competitive in the championship game, it is both objective and pointless.

If we're holding some hypothetical "Who would win?" contest, I think 2011 LSU would beat Clemson. This was a good Clemson team, no doubt, but the 2011 Bama that beat 2011 LSU would have broken them by the end of the game and LSU wouldn't have been much different. This Bama team, while very good and the product of some brilliant coaching, isn't a good yardstick for how good Clemson was because it is, imho, the worst of Saban's four NC teams at Bama.

I guess regardless of ones opinion here the fact that Alabama has beat some damn good teams, hell maybe some of the all time best teams says enough about them and Saban. They could have folded easily last night. Clemson gets the ball at the 50 and they hold. That INT was a game changer.

On 1/9/12, or last night, Clemson mops the floor with LSU IMO. And the topic that is not being talked about was that this was Saban's best coaching job, that he had to coach around some major issues for two straight years, and he did it. I think last year was his best coaching job other than this year.

Exactly, Bama didn't play well at all and Coker along with the o-line was screwing Bama up big time. If those two factors played like they did a week ago then this game would have gotten ugly.

I think some of these lsu fans forget Jordan Jefferson was their qb whenever this comes up.

to me it's clearly either Clemson or Texas. complete teams.

LSU looked badly on 1/9/12 because of their opponent.

To insinuate that LSU would play that way against Clemson is silly.

LSU mopped the floor with a handful of good teams in 2011. 2015 Clemson can't say the same. They convincingly beat one great opponent all season.

Yea, instead we beat them at their house earlier in the season. Any other teams Bama played can claim that?

The point of this thread is pretty obvious.

I was surprised how good Watson really is. Against OU he was only 16/31 passing. His ability to keep the play alive and run with the ball was Cam Newton like. He threw better than game with incredible accuracy as well.

Bama has never had to face a player like that in a Championship game.

And the defense was incredibly tough as well, but Kiffin got them for some big plays because of how aggressive they were.

LSU beat everyone on the schedule, not named Alabama, by at least 13 points. That includes two top 5 teams, one of those being a 31 point win.

Clemson beat a terrible USCe team by 5, a bad Louisville team by 3, and got lucky against ND.

The knee jerk reaction of people saying this Clemson team would beat that LSU team just shows those people's ignorance.

Well, as always with pure hypotheticals, any disagreement of opinion will be an impasse. My only addition to the argument is that I think you underrate how badly Bama's defense beat LSU. LSU didn't play their best game, but Bama deserves a lion's share of the credit for that. And LSU did pretty well on defense. It wasn't until a late Richardson run, when the LSU defense was gassed, that Bama even scored a TD in that game. So I still think that on 1/9/12, LSU beats anybody else in the country that year, and gives this year's Clemson a very tough time.

Do you people understand how many NFL draft picks were on the two 2011 teams. Lsu beat 5 or 6 top ten teams that year and most of the games except for Alabama were not close. Most of the players on both teams are starters in the NFL. I think there were like 45 players drafted on those teams.

That is as relevant as saying the Heisman winner doesn't deserve the Heisman because he won't be a good pro.

And yes, this is all hypothetical and is all opinion, just something argue about.
