Did you read the article and quotes from the book?

Oher's claims match what was said...

Oher was told that the conservatorship made him part of the family.
False

Oher was told that he was unable to be legally adopted because of his age.
False

A conservatorship allows the Tuohys to make business deals in Michael's name. True

A conservatorship is not required to help someone with car insurance, a driver's license, or getting into college.

The first question I have is what did Oher do with the $100k.

The second question is why the Tuohy's lawyer chose a conservatorship? Brittney Spears had a conservatorship. Did Oher have a drug problem? Self harm?

18 year old Michael Oher being represented by the Tuohy's attorney to sign over rights into a conservatorship is the question at hand. And the truth will come out (for or against the Tuohys. For or against Oher).

I will always see him as the teddy bear he was portrayed as in the movie. Encephalopathy is an interesting possibility. Rapid change in personality with aggression and depression seems to go hand in hand with it.

Getting married didn't change me. But having kids sure did.

Yes, I did. It's not a good look on Oher. The family definitely are owed some apologies around here from folks prematurely calling them scum.

It looks like they are virtually signaling leftist whackadoos, but not the lowlifes that is trying to make them out to be.

Pretty obvious by now there's a girl out there feeding him this bitterness. Same thing happened to Kaepernick...

I just had a thought about this which, admittedly, is pure conjecture and looking for a conspiracy wherever possible.

Maybe Oher needs$ and he thought that, since the Touhy’s adopted him he would eventually get a share of the $200 million referenced by the family’s attorney from the sale of the restaurants. He found out conservatorship does not actually make you an heir and now he’s looking to stir stuff up to see if he can get a court to essentially convert the conservatorship into an adoption.

Yeah, pretty much what anyone with a brain was thinking when they heard the story drop.

The other thing that makes absolutely no sense to me is that Oher signed a multi million dollar contract with the Ravens after he was drafted and played several years in the NFL.

With as much due diligence as pro teams do on their players I can’t believe that the Ravens never discussed the conservatorship with Oher and/or the Touhy’s. If it was warranted, the Touhy’s should have been the ones to sign the contract itself. Not to mention all the other major agreements he obviously did such as property sales.

Nope

Kaepernick was a narcissist and sociopath going back years before the public became aware of it

And for that they've received what??? They've benefitted how?

Helped a kid receive a good education and achieve the Mount Everest of his professional and personal passion in life.

The Touhy's likely aren't as pure as the driven snow but it doesn't seem like they've asked Michael Oher for anything and have only supported him every step of the way.

I haven't been following this too closely, but I have one HUGE question if as I understand it he did not find out about the conservatorship until this year:

He is making millions in the NFL and he has an agent (with presumably a whole slew of attorneys and legal experts in tow). Anything he would have been doing would have gone through that conservatorship, no?

How could he possibly be in the dark about that unless somehow his agent(s) were in collusion with the family, which sounds preposterous.

His family wasnt his agent, were they?

Being family doesnt make you an heir automatically. You don't have to leave a dime to any of your kids or anyone else if you don't want.

They could easily say to our natural born children, only, we leave everything.

Perhaps?
I mean, they didn’t get much out of the whole thing financially, relatively speaking, for it to have been some kind of shrewd manipulation.

Technically yes, but it seems like he or maybe everyone kinda forgot about it. One thought being that it was necessary then to provide for him (school, medical record access, contractual decisions, etc) and after he went off the Ole Miss and then the NFL it kinda fell by the wayside.

He wrote about it in his book.
And in his book, he obviously didn't know what a conservatorship was.
And per his book, everything he misunderstood about conservativeships was fed to him by the Tuohys and their attorneys.

You don’t think at that point he had the means or ability to find out?

Would it be helpful to stop someone from handing over money to drug addict parent? Or someone who allowed himself to have a conservator for almost 19 years through multiple NFL contracts and a marriage up until he was 37 years old?

I don’t really think I would be ready to legally adopt an adult I had only known for 1 to 2 years. You can treat an adult like family, support them, and have them live with you without adoption or a conservatorship, but I can see being concerned about his past trying to influence him or come around looking for money. He obviously still had issues from childhood going into college. This was also pre-NIL, and this could limit what he could sign, be tricked into, and affect his eligibility.

After the movie the mom became more famous than Oher. She was also at least half the story if not more because of the movie and Sandra Bullock. Oher can seemingly only bring up the movie, and the writer of the book has probably best answer on what they all made.

I don’t think they are saints or anything close, but they were rich before Oher & movie. They got famous after movie.

Oher was embarrassed by portrayal and came out with his own book 2 years after the movie. He has mentioned he started to have concerns before but wanted to wait until he finished playing in the NFL which happened after 2016 season. He says he found out for sure in Feb 2023 (took at least 7 years) and still waited 6 months to end conservatorship.

What else happened since 2016 season?
The tuohys sold business they had before they knew Oher for close to $200 million.
And:
quote:

Oher began dating Tiffany Roy after first meeting at the University of Mississippi. They went on to have four children together; two sons and two daughters. The couple got engaged on July 21, 2021, and married on November 5, 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee. At the time of their marriage, the couple had been together for 17 years.

Tiff waited long enough and wants some reparations

It would be funny if the Tuoys had to approve him getting married like a simpleton.

My guess is that it is a way for the family to help him out without impacting his eligibility at OM...

They didn't want to adopt him so they got a conservatorship instead to avoid potentially impacting his eligibility.

They told Michael that they wanted to adopt him.
Then lied and said he was 18 and unadoptable.
And convinced him to sign a conservatorship explicitly telling Michael that it was the same thing.

How would adoption be any different for eligibility?
