He loves to hear himself talk. I find him irritating.

To be honest, my feeling is that analysts in todays games bring very little to the table in terms of increasing either the entertainment or the understanding of the game.
I liked it better when they called them "color commentators" and they were designed mostly just to bring humor and entertainment to the game. Whether it was Cosell and Meridith putting on their shticks while Gifford played straight man or John Madden before he became a parody of himself, they usually brought some fun to the games, especially in boring games. (Jim Henderson and Archie Manning became masters at this back when the Saints were the Aints. I swear sometimes they seemed delirious with boredom and would just end up laughing at what they had to watch and describe).
A little behind the scenes info from interviews with coaches and players in the days leading up to the game is okay. And maybe a human interest story or two about one of the players or someone affiliated with the program from time to time.
But to be honest, there are enough sports talking heads on tv and radio pretty much 24/7 that I don't think they need them in the booth during games expounding on things anyone with eyes and a decent understanding of football can see for themselves (and which anyone without such an understanding don't want to hear anyway I would imagine.)

Brent M is given to overly dramatic comments which are totally useless in understanding the game. Gary D. is the best ever ! Excellent .

For those of you shitting on Danielson evidently do not watch other play by play and analysts.
Fox is horrible with Gus Johnson, Brando and anyone else. Even the NFL ones suck, except Collinsworth, although I still hate his voice.
Danielson is very good, as is Blackledge.

Danielson exaggerates everything -
compared A/M's back last year (not even sure who it was) to Barry Sanders after he got a 5yd gain. Acts like everything Nick Saban does is glorious -
I actually prefer Verne - he at least doesn't act like what he says is so freaking genius. He just needs to stop saying 'oh my' - that is tired and weak.
the best two are Musberger and Palmer - if Palmer would learn to shut up every once in awhile. I do like blackledge as well. All 3 seem completely impartial to all teams.

Danielson is good, just a bit long winded. Sometimes I just want him to shut up and watch the game unfold without deep moment of commentary on every freakin' play.

Brent Musburger is fantastic on play by play and is easily the gold standard in today's game.
10 years ago. He sucks now.
GD is the best though

His analysis is good. His commentary sucks.

if I had a dollar for everytime Palmer used "best ____ in the nation" when the player does something, I could retire...and he usually hasn't mentioned the player a single time prior.
mushburger just doesn't have a clue about football. a novice could say what he says. he needs to hang it up!!
danielson is okay until he starts over-analyzing, especially on reviews of plays.
herbstreit is ok. nessler is good. blackledge is very good. keith jackson was the master.
IMO.

Gary is outstanding. For whatever bias, inflection, etc he has, his analysis is still worth it. I would still put Todd Blacklege in his class.
Also, some are confusing play-by-play (PBP) with the color commentary. Verne, Keith "whoaaaa Nellie" Jackson, Al Michaels do PBP. Gary, Todd, Jessie do color.
While discussing, free Ron Franklin! OM alum I think. His Sat night SEC games are my all-time favorites. Nobody does SEC PBP better.

I really like Charles johnson(I think that's his name) on fox

I like Danielson, although he does seem prone to often throwing out my greatest pet peeve - saying that if a ball had been well thrown or a ball not been dropped, the receiver would have taken it all the way for a TD. I swear he thinks every drop or poorly thrown pass should have been completed and taken to the house.

I happen to agree. Danielson knows the game and studies the teams. I enjoy the games better when he an Verne do them. ESPN has some really weak color analysts. You can tell they spend all of their time watching other conferences.

I think Gary Danielson is fricking awful. Does he know the game? Yes. But he acts like he gets paid per word. He seriously never shuts up. And he tries to predict the plays all game long.
"Here comes the quarterback draw play!"
"This is the formation they run the read option. See?! I knew Georgia Tech was going to run the option that time. I've been watching practice all week, they love running that play from that formation!"
"They're gonna review that play and overturn the call...I disagree with that call. I don't like that call on the field..."
I'm probably in the minority but I'd prefer announcers that shut the hell up every now and then. I couldn't care less about the stuff surrounding the game (players families, stories, places the announcers ate, tweets, who's in the stands, etc)

I think he's a prick.
He's rides players and coaches endlessly during games sometimes like his shite doesn't stink.

Blackledge is easy on the ears - Danielson knows the game - Verne is too damn old and drunk - Musburger is not what he was a decade ago - Palmer makes me want to puke -
Keith Jackson was the best ever. I watched the SECCG from back during our 92 championship run on Classics and Jackson was a pro calling that game.
