But at least we never gave him a dumb extension, I guess.

LSU Tigers Secure Brian Kelly with Four-Year Contract Extension: A Commitment to Excellence Through 2028

In a significant move for the future of LSU Tigers Football, the university has officially accepted Brian Kelly’s four-year contract extension, ensuring his leadership through the end of the 2028 season. This decision underscores LSU’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in college football, as Kelly has proven to be an instrumental figure in revitalizing the program.

No extension?

I get it....but to say LSU never gave Kelly an extension?

This figure stems from Kelly’s 10-year, $100 million contract extension signed in December 2021, which includes a buyout clause requiring LSU to pay 90% of his remaining salary and supplemental compensation if he’s terminated without cause during the season.

This makes it one of the largest coaching buyouts in FBS history, second only to Texas A&M’s $76.8 million owed to Jimbo Fisher in 2023. Negotiations could potentially reduce it through mutual agreement, but sources indicate no resolution yet on the full payout.

NOLAFI

It's not totally unheard of for schools to extend a coach for recruiting purposes, then fire them before the extension runs its course. LSU signed Kelly to a 4 year extension in November of 2024, then fired him in October

I remember when there was talk about him possibly coming to LSU.
That ended after the Tiger Viking Raid, Pillage and Plunder of the Village of Oxfordshire.

LSU never extended Kelly, all of that is fake news.

Why would you "extend him through 2028" when his original contract ran longer than that?

Obviously he is happy at Missou and they are happy with him. Not every school is title or bust.

I did some rechecking and what you said makes sense. That's what I get for believing "it must be true...it's on the internet!"

Just call me Mr. Gullible.

I think Drink is a good coach. That is it, good. Good fit for Missouri, about the best they can hope to get.

People just create those for clicks, I saw one yesterday that said Cam Skattebo was signing with the Chiefs.

Nah, y'all fired Kelly because we embarrassed you at home.

Okay? Losing to a poverty program like Aggie is always embarrassing.

"Okay?" - I'm correcting what you said, which was not true. Big Bully A&M made you fire your coach.

Sure it was, no one fires a coach over one loss.

Damn..10 mill for being average...must be very nice...very clear there is no pressure at all to win big, quite job, out of the media mainly..and making a ton of money. Seems like a dream job honestly.

Do you honestly believe that was the only reason? You were just the straw that broke the camel's back.

It’s like Cutcliffe when he went to Duke.
-Out of the sec.
-No expectations
-one ranked season 22nd

Tons of money though.

Sorry I threw confusion into the discussion.
Honestly, there area ton of schools that give extensions out like candy, so I thought it plausible. I didn't realize he had a 10 year contract initially.

That's because it's asinine to give out such a contract, but we're talking about LSU.

There were some posters begging for this. Can’t remember which ones though.

LSU fired BK for a .708 win percentage over 4 seasons.

No, LSU fired BK because Mike Elko and A&M embarrassed the living shite out of LSU on national tv and nobody in Louisiana could handle that.
