The start date for college baseball should be moved back one month.

Even in the deep south baseball games in February can be miserable. The game is never going to grow unless the Big 10 gets interested and the season starts too early for that climate. Conference games should start the week after the final four and the CWS needs to finish up in late July. This would leave a month until CFB starts. The MLB draft would need to be moved, but with MiLB contracting, MLB would may be just as happy to have players develop in college rather than the minors.

You sound like a Yankee.

That’s your problem.

They should move it back a month and cut out half the out of conference games, then baseball would be finished before finals…

So July is better than February where people actually care about baseball?

It definitely needs to move forward a month. That would greatly help the northern schools build interest.

The MLB is not concerned with summer heat, why are you?

MLB would fight college baseball playing into July.. They fought, for years, moving the draft out of the middle of the CWS. They want their drafted college kids playing in the minors as soon as possible. They would lose a mth of college kids playing in the minors if they did not get them signed & assigned to a minor league team asap.

When has mlb ever cooperated with college baseball
You would shut down all collegiate summer leagues
All schools would go way past end of semester calendar
Increasing games in summer for the south would be miserable in summer heat when it also rains almost every afternoon

If you push the season into mid July, the MLB draft is going to be before postseason starts and the season would end just days before the signing deadline. No one in the postseason is going to get summer ball reps, bench players and young players needing those reps. Players have like 2 weeks before school starts back in the fall. Coaches have no time to recruit and build their roster post-draft and before the fall semester starts.

It’s just not realistic

Tell that to Rangers fans. They recently abandoned THE Ballpark to play inside.

Yeah, it can be.

But July is absolutely worse.

I don't think you need to move the MLB draft just work something out where they can start getting paid/get on insurance or what the frick ever, who the frick even cares with NIL.

Let guys get drafted and then let the MLB teams pay them to stay in school if they think that's the best place for them. They are looking to get rid of some of the minor leagues, paying kids to stay in school would be a solution to that.

Despite their bravado, Texans are generally pussies.

If that's the case why is there all kind of outdoor activity in July, August and and Sep (football, MLB, concerts, etc) and very little outside activity in Feb?

You can mitigate heat with shade, water, game times, etc, but cold is to the bone.

I don’t even know where to begin with this. Most small market teams don’t even want to pay the players on their active roster what they’re worth. They certainly won’t pay for an asset that isn’t working for them

Who gives a frick about the Big 10’s interest or participation in college baseball? Not important at all. No need to change anything.

It would be cheaper overall than running entire leagues though.

I made the mistake of watching part of the B1G Baseball tournament. It was either the finals or semis.

I swear I have seen more fans in attendance during the first game of a mid-week minor league double header.

Just cut the baseball season. Football should never accommodate other sports.
