Nearly every study I read indicates that the majority of football programs lose money, so at least the proceeds from those licensed caps and t shirts, plus the game tickets, help allay some of the cost for having a football team.
ncaa study
Look, I don't give a shite about sidewalk fans. My brother never attended college and he's the biggest AU homer there is. I'm citing real, actual, data. Sidewalk fan revenue is an afterthought.

antibarner is arguing that football wouldn't be so popular if less people watched

link the ncaa.org since it's so difficult to click the link in the article

I didn't even address the subject of sidewalk fans and don't even give a shite. My point is that for those programs losing money on football, every bit will help.
This isn't complex.
edit to say I don't see a real, actual link to your supposed "real, actual data", never mind the fact that the real, actual study may very well be a less reputable source than the real, actual ncaa.

I have LSU alumni in my family. I went to a game Alabama game in Baton Rouge with some of my family and their friends. It was a night game, and Alabama won. On the way back to the car, I over heard an argument about me. They were refusing to allow me back in the car. So it happens......

Your points are you give money and have nice seats. Good for you. Without us you'd still have your nice seats. Just shitty football.

John Milner, that's a summary of a paper that arguably doesn't reflect the results of the actual paper. Read the paper, not the NCAA summary article.
There are also specific papers (very boring, btw) that address the accounting of not only universities, but the athletic programs within those universities. Accounting profit and loss is not a good indicator of actual program health for these programs.

and as noted in my edited post above, you haven't produced any "real, actual data" from any "real, actual" source, and let alone one that is reputable a source as the "real, actual" ncaa.
edit to repeat that the point is that most programs are losing money, so any source of income is going to help. If The University of Hopeless is losing money on its football program, and tshirt sales clear X amount of dollars, then good for the hopeless. They're a little less poor than before.
Now let's talk about why those programs that lose money on sports (the majority) have sports programs in the first place. Maybe you can talk some more about "real, actual data" without really, actually providing any.

I've always enjoyed CNB on the board. Can you point on the doll where CNB touched you?

Marines ride on Navy gator freighters or better known as jarhead taxi's. I was personally on CG-73 Plankowner arriving.
