an Alabama fan. The SEC (especially the West if combined with 1-2 of the better East teams) is a gauntlet.
The lesser teams in the SEC have NFL players in their front 7. Their stadiums seat at least 60K and are hostile. You play very few if any teams where you waltz into a stadium of 25K people and play a roster that has 1 guy that will be drafted like you do in basically every other league. That team is generally Vanderbilt.
It's a physical gauntlet, and it will be even more so when Texas and Oklahoma (programs that are both good and have tons of big physical talent) jump on schedules. Your weeks off end with your guys banged to hell and having just gotten out of a street fight most of the time.
Indeed the SEC is wild, one minute you can be on top of the world then the following week you find yourself in a dogfight for survival with one of the lower tier teams.

Letting the horns in was always going to be the death of the conference

You don't consider winning the SEC East in year 2 and 3 as sniffing a conference championship? I mean, they were in the actual, literal, real-life championship game. They didn't win it, obviously, but being in it I think characterizes "sniffing it
They lost those 2 games by 17 and 29 points. That ain’t sniffing

Bama loses a game sometimes. Even Ole Miss got one on them before.

Do you know what the idiom "not close to sniffing ___" means?
Losing in the championship game that determines the champion, even if it was by 170 points, much less 17 points, is sniffing the championship.
Arkansas being 2-6 in conference is not sniffing a championship

And you can’t beat Arkansas.

You are on a two game losing streak to Auburn. It’s Oklahoma that drills us!

It’s not just that your “off weeks” in the SEC are going to eff you up and make it an almost coin flip on the road.
It’s that the actual blue blood programs have so much talent that their reserves that come in in the second half are NFL prospects flying around to make an impression.
Half the present B12 recruits closer to Vandy (team #14) than they do team #13.

This thread could have waited until y'all play in the SEC net year. After your first season it would either have more impact, or you might decide not to post it at all.

Because the Big 12 sucks, and Texas has barely been able to be a consistent winner even there.

You gone find out soon enough.
And everyone else in the SEC will find out just how thoroughly Texas and their fan base are full of themselves. Aggie and Missouri fans already know the full extent. And they'll never stop boasting even after being chopped off at the knees, like the Black Knight in Monty Python & the Holy Grail. It can be comical to watch when they try to spin bad losses.

It's easy to get up for a single big game. It's hard to grind out a schedule filled with teams who can and will beat you if you don't bring your A game. The thing that n00bs and outsiders don't get about the SEC is that that 5-7 team you think is so awful can beat the bottom half of the top 25.
And those 8 and 9 win SEC teams tend to have the ability to hang with anyone outside of the top 3-4 teams in the country.
But we've seen this before from coaches and others. Everyone comes in thinking that the SEC is no different or that it's just a little bit different. And everyone winds up realizing how wrong they were. OP, you're far from the first to think you're hot shite and nothing will change or matter but like everyone else, you'll learn.
