I agree with it being stronger than usual last year but overall it's been pretty down for a while with only two or maybe three teams tops competing for the east. It feels like we're are stuck in a minefield damn near every season in the west. In 2011 we had arguably our best team ever and we wind up having to play a team of our own in a rematch for the championship.

It just seems like west teams are on the same cycle. Our weak years are never real week but our teams strong years coincide with one another and it's an all out bloodbath to try to win the west if you get what I'm saying.

I can agree with that. The west is pretty solid top to bottom with the exception of a few years. Franklin made Vandy relevant in football and UK was shite. Meanwhile the west has finished with 3 strong teams for a long run. The years that Auburn was down, A&M was strong and Petrino had Arkansas playing good football. With Jackie Sherrill at MSU, you might win the game but they beat the shite out of you.

It really sucks sometimes to have a great team but there is someone else in the division who just a tiny bit better or the breaks go their way. 2011 was going BEAUTIFULLY and then 1/9(or Jordan Jefferson) happened and gone just like that

We can't catch a break for nothing lately. Hopefully Cameron and Harris/Jennings will get us over the hump.

OP needs to rewatch the SECCG again, Auburn was never down to Mizzou in the 4th quarter.

Well, thats all anyone in here is arguing. The East wasnt "down" compared to where it usually is and that was the argument.

I can admit the West has been stronger at least the top 3 teams generally for a while I think Mizzou and South Carolina would have finished in the top 3 this year in the West. I think you all tend to "over hype" the whole of your division though.

No they were not. Our D-Coordinator just cant figure out running/option type offenses. Hell Navy whipped this same DC up and down the field.

There was plenty of offense in our game though.

Surprised AU was as successful as they were with the refs spotting both Mizzou and UGA points down the stretch. Impressive IMO.

It's good to see that the inability to utilize the English language properly isn't limited to just Gumps. Gumpettes seemingly want equality in poor grammar as well.

No you didn't.

Georgia had some injuries, sure. But, no excuse for the amount of yard/points we put up?

Grantham.

We outscored every close win we had. We won the South Carolina and LSU games because of our offense. I'm sorry, but the Offense you saw in Athens with Freshman JJ Green at RB was not the one that beat USC and LSU earlier.

Well going by your dumbass theory LSU beat Auburn and Auburn beat Mizzou, therefore LSU would have beat Mizzou.

I think most people judge whether or not a division is "up" or "down" based on how the traditional powers in the division fare, not how the newcomers perform, especially if said newcomer takes advantage of said "down" traditional powers. That isn't to take away from what Missouri accomplished as much as it is to provide additional context to the division as whole. I don't think you can take one team and replace another and say "see? the division isn't down because we took one of their spots!"

UF has been in trouble since CUM left but last year was the first time since 1990 that they didn't even make a bowl appearance. UGA started the season ranked 5th and had a legitimate shot at the MNC before injuries to key players took us down. UTN is improving but has been "down" for the past several years. USCe has sort of replaced UTN as they have been 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the division since 2010. So, the division tends to be defined by how "the big three" do or are expected to do.

I'm glad Mizzou isn't another Kentucky but having a year of success against teams that have been much better recently than they were (for whatever reasons) isn't a good indicator of whether or not the division is up or down, IMO.

Let's use some logic here: Who did Missouri beat last year?

Regular season:

Murray State 6-6
Toledo 7-5
Indiana 5-7
Arkansas State 7-5
Vanderbilt 8-4 - UGA was the best team they beat
Georgia 8-4
Florida 4-8
Tennessee 5-7
Kentucky 2-10
Ole Miss 7-5
Texas AM 8-4

68-65, not the most impressive record of an SEC division champ ever, and consider that the division had 3 teams below .500 and Vanderbilt, one of the "better" teams in the division, their best win was against UGA, who was just not the same team later in the season after injuries.

Missouri only played one team that won more than 9 games in the regular season last year, and they lost.

The perennial powers in the division were a combined 17-19 in the regular season, and South Carolina, probably the best team in the division based on who they played, where they played them, and who they beat, lost to a 5-7 team to basically hand the division to a team that really didn't play more than one top 10 team all year.

SO YES! The division was down.

Still a great season from Missouri. Now just let it go, and enjoy your division trophy, if they make those...
