Only functions as an extra game to be tabulated.

That’s the only reason the BigXII created their title game. They felt they needed a “13th data point” to help their conference champion get into the playoff.

Playing another game is just an elimation game that rewards everyone around the ones playing. If there were no conference Championship games then the top 4 would be

Clemson
Auburn
Wisconsin
Oklahoma

Because those teams had to play an extra game and others didn't Bama got rewarded and Auburn and Wisconsin got punished. If it holds no weight then it shouldn't be played.

It just seems punitive to play an extra game when others don't have to.

Next time this happens (in about 10 years) tell Coach Nutt, Jr. to forfeit the title.

Of course it holds weight.

It is a quality win for UGA and a quality loss for Auburn.

Same for Ohio State and Wisconsin.

But it doesnt erase the other 12 games.

This is so elementary to understand that I have to keep reminding myself that I am explaining it to an Auburn grad.

UGA would have fell in just by Auburn and Wisconsin losing their extra game just like Bama did. The fact UGA played was irrelevant unless they lost (which is the whole point) . If quality wins mattered Bama wouldn't be in OSU would for beating #3.

I don’t understand why all the conference championship crap matters. Can 2 best teams not be from same division ever?? I think cfpc wants 4 best teams in regardless . Conference championships can be tie breakers if teams are even in their eyes. At end of day they thought that if you striped off a parking lot in wherever, USA, that Alabama would beat OSU. Simple as that

By opting out of the conference game, they would be gambling others couldn't lap them with a conference championship plus an additional top 10 or so win on their resume.
That could make a difference if you set out,

Unless, of course, you are Bama.

Alabama was ahead of Wisconsin all year. All year.
Now, Alabama has 1 loss and Wisconsin has one loss and Auburn is melting because Alabama is still ahead of them.

The melt is real.

OK, I get it...2009 sit at home after defeat to LSU while they play on and get banged up...then give a re-match (any coach that gets a rematch that is worth his salt and salary should be able to fix what happened and beat the team that beat them). Result...Bama cools their heels, Miles believes he can do it again and won't say NO since it is his right to, and give another team a shot. STUPID! Part of why he had to go. Saban gets a trophy, a bonus and the BCS is garbage and a favorites club! Fast forward to Saturday. Bama, resting, getting wounds and injuries healed while EVERY BODY ELSE PLAYS for conference championship gets beat on, has injuries, wins, and not even mentioned USC, or saying Ohio State who beat 12-0 UNDEFEATED Wisconsin, has to stay home! Heck, even WISCONSIN HAS A BETTER RECORD THAN BAMA 12-1 vs 11-1. And the gall of ESPN (should be spelled BAMALOVN) has the audacity to CALL Saban and ask if he thinks his team deserves it, and he cries that they had injuries (who didn't?), didn't call USC coach? Urban? (at least as long as I stayed up watching ESPN lick Sabans boots). Can u spell FAVORITISM??? And I'm an SEC guy. This wreeks!!!! ESPN...report the news, don't opinion in anybody's favor! Why can't we pick from the 4 strongest conferences? I implore the coaches to say "No Thanks!" If they have a spotless record like Wisconsin, and just say "We have a perfect record! See you in the Final Four!" We need healing time too!! Dig It!!!!

Had Auburn won yesterday they would be in and UGA out.

Sounds pretty damn relevant to me.

Exactly. Auburn would have been in with 2 loses because they won the SECC. In reality that didn't but since they were already ranked #2, they definitely would have.

Seems theSEC championship is an exhibition. The conference champ had to play an extra game and has to travel to play in the Rose Bowl. Meanwhile Alabama rests up and is rewarded for not playing in a conference championship by playing a home game in their backyard.

The playoff committee should have ranked Alabama #3 and forced them to travel. Too bad UGa, you got hosed worse than OSU.

I guess no one wanted to challenge the Rant? ESPN is despicable. Just finishing off football with the kneeling NFL players for those who love a level, fair, and honorable game. Heck, most of the young moms are not gonna let their boys play so they don't get hurt anyway.

You sure don’t risk taking another loss when you don’t even play in the game to decide who the conference champion is, now do you?

The only team that gets a golden ticket to the CFP is an SEC team..All other conference schools are exposing themselves to getting knocked out for playing an extra game.
