They will both break Furniss’ record, as much as it pains me to say it. The current record is 352 for reference.

To start the season we had:

Jake Mangum : 275
Antoine Duplantis : 268

We currently have:

Jake Mangum : 355
Antoine Duplantis : 323

Games Played:

Jake Mangum : 45
Antoine Duplantis : 45

Hits this year :

Jake Mangum : 70
Antoine Duplantis: 55

Extra Stats: Avg / RBI

Jake Mangum : .394 / 34
Antoine Duplantis : .294 / 44

Who do you guys think will have the SEC career hit title at the end of the season and how many for each?

Let me know if anything needs changing. MSST posters please keep me up to date on Mangum’s hits and I will update accordingly.

Lol that would be fitting wouldn’t it? They are definitely 2 of the best SEC hitters of all time when it is all said and done

Added a “hits this year” section so it is easier to compare current performance and trends by either player.

Realistically, barring injury, whichever player's team advances farther in the postseason most likely winds up with the record.

"Meaningless" SECT games could be significant.

Yes, but both teams are expected to make it relatively equally far, no?

I don’t think State is considered a favorite to win it all

Yeah, hence why I said if one makes it farther than the other it could decide who owns the record.

I like the way you think cotton. I just meant both are expected to make the CWS

Definitely the 2 best SEC hitters of all time??? Can't you just stick to being a horrible basketball poster? Stay out of baseball please.

Lol. I understand you like to live in the past. By the time they graduate they will both have shattered the SEC record for career hits and hit in an era where it is much harder to hit. They will likely both be about .320 in career batting average which in today’s league is incredible. There is no one I would rather have in a situation where I need a base hit than Antoine Duplantis. I am sure a lot of State posters would say the same about Mangum. When they graduate they will absolutely be 2 of the best, if not the 2 best, SEC hitters of all time.

The stupid philosophy these days is that someone can’t be an all time great just because they are playing right now, and that’s well... stupid. And I am a baseball fan first. Basketball season just starts earlier

Would you rather me change it to 2 of the best? If you think that there is no chance that Duplantis and Mangum are regarded as the 2 of the best SEC hitters of all time by the time they’d graduate then you are just living in the past

State is not expected to make the CWS. State was predicted to finish 6th in the SEC West. They were a top 20ish team preseason nationally.

Wait really? I thought they had a really good season last year. Didn’t realize they were expected to drop this year. Thanks for the info.

Even if they break the record, they will not "shatter" it. Preston Tucker for Florida came within 10 or so hits in this same era just a few years ago fwiw. Duplantis has had 89, 90, and 89 hits in his three seasons. If he has 90 again this year, he will break the record by 13. I wouldn't call that shattering the record.

There have been multiple LSU hitters recently surpass a .320 average for their career.

Look, I love Duplantis, but you need to pump the breaks. There is a long list of hitters in the history of this conference, or even just at LSU, that are better than either of these two players.

Lol why are you being like that. I said thanks for the info. Crucify me for not knowing preseason expectations for a team I don’t follow.

Last year LSU was expected to make the CWS and MSU was not. How did that work out?

State lost 2 position players and 2 good pitchers from the CWS team. They have added some power at the two infield positions and a 1st round draft pick to the rotation. State should be better than last year.
