Did I say that preseason predictions are infallible? No, I did not. OP said State was expected to go to Omaha coming into the season. They were not.

Yes but it’s the .320 batting average over 4 seasons with as many at bats and that many hits. It’s such continued success it’s hard to ignore. Also, if LSU makes it anywhere near where they are projected this year, Duplantis will beat it by well over 13, probably have close to 100 hits. We are going to agree to disagree. I think duplantis is one of the best hitters because of his consistency and clutch factor, and I think 10 years down the line you will be able to look back at this and Duplantis will be considered an all time great hitter.

You don't know much about anything yet start several "dear diary" threads a day with a lot of misinformation. You're annoying, both on here and the tiger rant.

We have a really good team and most anyone that follows baseball could see a run to the supers at the least.
Posted on 2/24/19 at 8:07 pm to Hailstate15
That’s what I figured but lsufball is always a bitche so I don’t know what I expected. FWIW I think y’all have a team that could make it to CWS. This was supposed to be a pure stat and prediction based thread but I should have known one of those could never exist on the rant without somebody coming in to argue

Oh do please point me to my “misinformation” in this thread. This is a stat and prediction thread and I don’t need you coming into it to make an argument that isn’t necessary just because you like to argue.

Oh and by the way, you want to talk about misinformation?
What kind of BS is that? They will both break the record and it won’t really be close

Should be fun to follow this season. I hope they both break the record; can’t believe Mangum is still in college though

Yea how he isn’t in the pros is beyond me. I thought he was going to go very high in the draft.
Edit: Sorry, the way this is phrased made it sound like I though he was going to go higher than I actually did. I just meant that I thought he was going to go high enough where he would leave college

State gets to play Ole Miss four times. Magnum will probably build a sizable lead. He loves beating Ole Miss like AJ Brown loved beating State.

Lol, I appreciate the humor but I highly doubt this will make a difference unless Mangum goes like 12-12 on the weekend against Ole Miss. LSU plays some teams that Dups will have a field day against as well. It really should be a very close and interesting race

It was a joke.
Dupalntis is a .326 career hitter
Mangum is a .355 career hitter
The honest answer is that at current pace Duplantis likely needs 3 or maybe 4 more games over the course of the season to edge out Mangum.
But if the two hit their career averages this season, Duplantis will need 21 more ABs to catch Mangum. That's 7 or maybe 8 more games.
So that means
Rainouts
Injuries
SEC Tournament (A 2 game pickup is quite possible)
NCAA Regional (Probably no pickup)
NCAA Super Regional (A 2-3 game pickup is possible)
College World Series (Obviously, a 2-6 game pickup is possible)
So Duplantis either has to outhit Mangum by 30 points or so, or LSU needs to play 7-8 more games.

Geez. I didn’t realize Mangum was that high in BA for his career. That’s insane. The good thing so far about Duplantis this year is that he seems to be finding his power. If he can continue turning what would have been yours or lineouts last year into HRs, that will help his average tremendously. I too think that in the end nothing will matter more than the games played though

Shocked to see Duplantis was right there with Jake in the hits department. Knew Jake was chasing the former Tiger but didn't realize a current Tiger was on his arse with the all time record. Should be fun keeping up thru out the year.

Mangum hitting .408 his freshman season really helps that career avg. Hit .324 his soph season with a broken hand the last part of the season.
Posted on 2/24/19 at 9:51 pm to weadjust
Wait he hit .408? As in, on the whole season? I didn’t think that happened anymore. Sorry about the broken hand though
Posted on 2/24/19 at 9:52 pm to Klongdawg
Likewise I knew Duplantis was chasing but not Mangum until I saw someone on Twitter mention it. Definitely will be fun to keep track of

Yes - Finished No. 7 nationally and led the SEC in batting average (.408)…

Good for him. That’s really impressive. Now I’m really pumped about this race. I love Dups so obvioulsy I’m biased lol
