The Commissioner has one goal - get as many SEC teams into the expanded playoffs. He will keep the powerhouses spread out so not everyone has tons of loses. That means some of the rivalries may be phased out to accommodate at least 5 teams each year in the playoffs.

Yeah, there is absolutely no way some of the conference's most historic and heated rivalries go away.

Alabama-Tennessee
Alabama-Auburn
Auburn-Georgia
Florida-Georgia
Mississippi State-Ole Miss

Those are the Big Five that the SEC will never ever touch.

exactly, and it is truly so easy to do a 4 pod system and preserve all those.

and honestly even the long-standing games other than those 5 like ole miss/lsu or bama/msu or even the neuveau riche games like uf/tenn or bama/lsu...all can easily be preserved. This isn't as complicated as some may make it out ot be.

Don't forget OU/Texas Red River Rivalry.
Wouldn't it make sense for Texas, A & M and Arkansas to be in a POD? They all have a history of playing each other right?

Ha! I was going to say that but didn’t want to go that far. You know, state the obvious.

I am for smashing up all of the rivalries if we lose Tennessee and LSU as a yearly game. We already lost Auburn as a rival and they were our oldest rival.

We just can't have a program like UT claiming power status then roll out losing 15 in a row to Bama

If the playoffs goes to 12 teams bama isn't going to need any help from anyone to make it. They'd need to probably lose 4 games in a year to miss out and that aint happening anytime in the next 15 years at least.

Do y’all realize that a 15 year old Tennessee fan has never seen their team beat BAMA. Let that sink in.

Fauck it. I'm tired of Georgia's b s anyways. I don't see anyone with common sense doing away with the iron bowl however

The option of

MU, OU, Texas, Arkansas

MSU, OM, A&M, LSU

Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama

USC, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida

With one fixed opponent from each pod works fairly well overall.

If the goal is to get as many as possible it actually makes the most mathematical sense since 2 & even an occasional 3 loss team (with a “good game in those loses”) will make the 12 team playoff many years: put your best 8 teams in the same 2 pods as these are also the teams most likely to go undefeated in the non-con:
Pod 1- Bama, Georgia, Florida, and Auburn

Pod 2- LSU, A&M, OU, Texas

Pod 3- Mizzou, Ark, Ten, Vandy

Pod 4 - Ole Miss, Miss St, UK, SC

Pod 1 & 2 will almost always produce 2-3 teams with 3 or less loses with a ton of impressive wins and got nods from coin flip committee decisions. Teams in Pod 3 & 4 are most likely to get 2-3 teams with 2 or less loses.

This gives the SEC with 4-6 playoff resume teams every year. If you want to maximize the # of teams this is better than spreading them out.

Which is what is wrong with the pods. There is no way to keep all of the first four without having cross-pod permanent rivals, which prevents playing every team over a 4 year rotation.

Better to just give each team 3 permanent rivals and get rid of divisions and pods entirely.

Not a chance that these games go away:

Auburn/UGA, iron bowl, UT/Bama, Uf/UGA

A four year rotation would be nice but it has never existed before. Even with a 12 team SEC.

The rivalries are pretty much the baby and not the bathwater. That's why the best solution I've seen is the pods with one fixed opponent from each pod.

A six year span gets you a complete home/away rotation through the entire conference. This would be a significant improvement over the current situation

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of doing away with pods and divisions. What's the point unless each pods produces a champion which will cause for a playoff for conference championship.
