Auburn is the smallest stadium and it seems to me to be one of the best venues in basketball or was two years ago . Kentucky is the only school that really needs the arena size they have … the rest do not sale out year round .

This seems like a way to have all the drunk drivers in one place for the cops to catch them at roadblocks outside of it.

That's really nice. Architecture is a nod to the Cherokee Gothic seen in the main campus. Nicely done.

Great concept and hope it works well for yall! Very sincerely! If there’s one thing Norman can use to go along with OU’s storied sports traditions, it’s better entertainment options. Again, congrats!
My nephew with his girlfriend who is from OKC went to the OU/Bama playoff game in Norman and had a good time but said he was suprised how there were almost no bars outside of 3 or 4 restaurants that happened to have a decent bat inside.
That new project looks really nice. I love projects like this. Only thing I don't like is the arena capacity. Ideally would be perfect if there was a way for arena capacity to be closer to 12,000.

Yeah. When I was in college, it was a ghost town. No entertainment to match the storyline. I am torn on stadium size - Bud Walton seats 19,200 and can be absolutely crazy. It can also be dead during midweek games. Conversely teams like Kansas still seat only about 8-10K and gear it more toward students and let the program generate revenue through success, etc. and they do fine. I think if we did a Reno or do a new stadium, it will seat less than 19K and be more experience and amenity driven. But our PtB frick everything up so it doesn’t even matter - John Tyson and the Hunts stepping in on Yuracek’s dumbass are some of the only reasons we remain competitive in basketball and we now feature fricking lame arse courtsite seats for “executives”(which, yes we have a lot in our area but I question how many of them care bc most aren’t Arkansas alum). Bottom line, make a great environment, let the students get to experience what they deserve for the brief time they’re there and if you want to bitch as an older person about that then you’ve forgotten where you came from and what made it so special. It’s going to be incredible. All of a sudden, you can go for a game, and instead of sitting on Highway 9 for an hour trying to get out of there, you can go hang out and have a great meal or a drink in the district and have a good time.”
He then turned and said off the record, “You’d still be in shithole Oklahoma. We can’t do anything about that.”

I personally think this is just a big waste of money. They cant fill up LNC with people or students and now that it's across town from the university, they def wont get students to go.
ETA: I also want to see the plans for parking, nothing like building a massive entertainment complex but not have anywhere near enough parking.

Last renovation brought UF down to 10K with the addition of suites and such. IMO that is too small for a school our size, but we'll eventually get a new arena and I'd guess they'd want to get back to around 12K like it was before.

Looks fantastic - I would prefer on campus (may not be feasible for OU I don't know), but I do like that they carried the architecture from your campus into this project.
Mixed private/public developments like this offering more of a destination/ entertainment district (Ballpark Village in St Louis and Texas Live in Arlington are examples where pro teams have done this) seems to be the current trend.
A while back, Mizzou issued a request for proposals for mixed private/public developments for several areas of campus - chief among those the area surrounding the "athletic campus", which currently has few if any entertainment, restaurant, bar, lodging options. I've heard through the grapevine they want to demolish the Hearnes Center as it is a very large, very expensive building to maintain - and it sits centrally right next to the football stadium, arena (basketball/gymnastics), and softball park. Lord knows we need a new Baseball stadium too. No idea where that all stands, hopefully it gets queued up after the current stadium renovations.

I think thats the positive part of this. No way they get that nice of a basketball complex (and gymnastics too) on campus. Allows city to pay bulk of costs but will bring people to that district. Of course we all want them on campus but this is a huge improvement plus city can use for many other events besides basketball.
It also means the money OU is not having to spend on this can be used to improve campus venues like football, baeball and other sports. Less splitting of the money pie.

Looks great, even though it's not close to campus (close as in, walking distance - parking is always a pain). Uber drivers will be making bank. I wonder how the non-University Norman residents feel about it. It's close to the freeway, so it should be decently easy to get in and out. What do they plan to do with the LNC?
I know University of Kentucky is wanting to do a similar concept, but it will be an unmitigated disaster, since the district will dump onto the busiest road in the city, and it is not near a limited access highway. And the majority of parking for students goes away.
