What was the most valuable thing a coach ever told you?
Mine was “You never rise to the occasion. You always fall to your highest level of preparation”.
I still use that all the time to this day

In the film room, after everyone just watched paperwasp get pancaked or miss an assignment.
Emphasizing not what happened, but how you responded going forward.

I played awhile for Coach Nick Hyder. Interesting guy. Great Christian man, and one of the most successful coaches in Georgia history. Died way too early of a heart attack.
True story, we had a kid that was beaten regularly by a drunken father, and Coach Hyder took the kid in to his home. He lived what he preached.

Best thing my coach did was defend me when he didn't even know I was in the room. His example was louder than his words for the four years in the two sports I had him as coach.
