October 28, 2017 vs Ole Miss (38-37)
Penn State was ranked #2
Tua warmed the bench as Jalen Hurt's backup
Joe Burrow played for Ohio State
A&M had not yet fired their fourth coach this century
The Hunchback of Notre Dame still resided in Starkvegas
Georgia fans were beginning to see Kirby as the "Saban of the East"
The only thing that has stayed the same is the failure called Arkansas football

It is just college baseball, don't take it too hard

I have no prob admitting our suck in football but that date somehow makes me feel better. It's not like you said Reagan was in office or something.

Still sore about last weekend?

That's a very similar timeline to the last time LSU went to Omaha.

The homecoming loss to Vanderbilt that day is what left us no doubt.

A&M has had 5 coaches since the start of this century (2001-present): Slocum, Franchione, Sherman, Sumlin, Fisher.
LSU has had 4 coaches since the start of this century (2001-present): Saban, Miles, Herman/Fisher, Orgeron
Florida has had 6 coaches since the start of this century (2001-present): Spurrier, Zook, Meyer, Muschamp, McIlwaine, Mullen

Why is Arkansas football on the mind of an LSU fan on a Tuesday afternoon? You must live a sad life baw.

Damn, this really makes you realize just how bad Bert left Arkansas. I thought he might stand some chance when he arrived there and it was quite a coup for them to hire him. Man. I’m not sure Chard is up to this challenge.

Bielema left a mess. I say mess because it appears that his locker room culture was the exact opposite of what Morris wanted when he arrived. Many of his older players became apathetic or quit the team when Morris came in. I get the impression Morris wasn't a fan of those players either.
2015 was an interesting season for Bielema that he desperately needed to play in his favor when looking in hindsight. Somehow we drop two of our first three to Toledo and TT as double digit favorites in each game, and at home. TT was 7-5 that season. We went into #1 Starkville to lose by a point after leading most of the game, and of course drop the annual barn burner to A&M by a TD. Your other loss is by 2 TDs at Bama, and I want to say we had a lead later in the 3rd quarter.
A pretty damn good team really. Dropping those first two with every circumstance in your favor is inexplicable. I know this is homerish but we should have easily been 9-3 that season and one bounce or break away from 10-2.
Now while noting the favorable "should've, could've, would'ves" I'll add in the miracle 4th and 20+ OT play in Oxford that gave us a win we shouldn't have had.
Point being, Bielema had a favorable recipe for a ten win season in 2015 and absolutely blew it. He didn't stand a chance after that.

Ah yes, a play that the rebs learned how quickly emotions can swing from elated to disbelief.

Bingo. Now you can make a pretty good case that some of Houston Nutt's squads under achieved but when Nutt absolutely had to have a good season... more often then not he pulled it off.
Its why I say that Malzahn is Nutt 2.0. He'll give you several bleh seasons in a row but you'll put up with it because every few years he'll reel off an SEC title appearance.
Bert could never pull off the good season when he needed it.
As for Chad's first season here I think its a combination of factors that caused us to be so bad. We had a significant talent gap, particularly on the O-line. The talent we did have was apathetic (we have had to do the dreaded addition by subtraction routine of getting rid of players) at best. And, in all honesty, I think some of his coaching staff were not quite ready for prime time. We will see how things change this year.
That all having been said... if I was an LSU fan, which I'm not thank God, I'd be cautious crowing about Arkansas being on an SEC losing streak. We all remember what happened the last time Arkansas had a long SEC losing streak and what team we whipped to end that streak.

Holy shite, they could easily go this season without winning another game. The only game they might possibly be favored in is Nov. 30 vs Mizzou. Damn they're staring down the barrel of 2+ years without an SEC win. For context, Sylvester Croom wasn't even that bad.

I think 2014 was an even bigger waste. Had a top 10 defense with 2 NFL RBs, Mackey Award winning TE, QB who is still in the NFL, biggest OL in college football, etc.
Only lost to Alabama by one point that year, blew out LSU and Ole Miss, close losses to A&M and State. Dominated Texas in the bowl game but that team should have done a lot better than 7-6 as well.

Both were LSU head coaches at one point...until they weren't and LSU settled for Orgeron.
