Ohio State beat Arizona state in that Rose Bowl. Was a really good game. Jake Plummer was the QB for the Sun Devils. He went on to have a pretty good career in the NFL

Been saying this. Until I see one of these other schools actually win a title, not just make a 12 team playoff, I believe it. The big time programs are the same big time programs.

Ppl like to say its all new now and the past doesnt apply, yet teams like OSU are still hoisting trophies.

If Indiana or OM win it all, ill retract my statement

I don’t think Ole Miss or Arkansas have won a legitimate natty but if you say that to them they will get their panties in a wad.

We have two. 1964 and 1977. I heard them say it on the TV before ND pushed our shite in.

The NCAA's list of Natty's since 1869

It shows LSU winning one in 1908, but I don't think we claim it. Guess we need to do like Auburn and claim it.
Maybe our new coach can announce it.

I keep a list of the national championships schools claim and how many are legit or not.

I would count that as legit if LSU claimed it.

However, that list is actually meaningless and that has nothing to do with the reason I would count it.

Ole Miss went 10-0 in 1960 with wins over Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State, Arkansas and others and the stupid AP still gave it to USC.

The last time aTm won a national title a failed art student was in the process of taking over Poland.

It worries me what might happen if they win another.

Good stat. SSDD. The more things change the more they stay the same. There is a bit more parity now, but ain't no way IU or any other new age team is winning it all any time soon. I will happily eat crow if the future is different...but..it isn't going to be. It's just more $$ out of pockets for all the suckas who think they have a chance. Also, the sport will at some point become more regulated...whatever the perceived NIL advantages are now will be short lived IMO.

Look at the number of players entering the portal each year, the past 2 seasons are the only real "NIL/Portal" seasons to go off of, its a small sample size.

TTU for instance has 2 5*s in 2026 and 2 5*s in 2027 committed. That doesnt happen pre-NIL.

The parity brought about by the portal and playoff literally just began. It’s real, the levels have changed.

NIL & portal has yet to fully overtake CF.

I think your theory/comment “same 8 teams” will be tested over the next decade and beyond.

Neither one are wire service championships. So that is why people are saying they weren't "legitimate"....

Both teams were worthy... and the '64 team would have for sure gotten the wire service championship if there was a poll after the bowl games. But there wasn't.. so they don't.

Politics outside of football is why Ole Miss didn’t get the nod in 1960. Rebels deserved the title at 10-0-1.

Previously unbeaten Missouri lost to Kansas late but was later awarded back the victory due to an ineligible KU player, but it was too late.

Minnesota at 8-1-0 was awarded both wire service polls before losing to Washington.

USC won their first national title in the poll era in 1962 going undefeated.
