was the season that they fired Gus - 2020.

Since then, they have finished below .500 every season.

Both overall and in conference.

And the two coaches they hired and fired after Gus had winning records everywhere else they coached. It’s an Auburn problem

Auburn has a lot of support for their program . If they get the right coach they can turn it around . I really like their dc Not sold so much on their coach . I figured with OU and Texas joining Auburn would slip down the sec rankings a bit.

It shows what you know. We were way down the sec rankings long before OU and Texas joined.

LOL. No it was two bad hires.

Harsin was trying to get fired so he could collect his $17 million and go back to Idaho. Freeze was simply warn out, tired, and gave up trying to win (didn't help that he was fighting cancer at the same time)

Quite frankly, neither were trying.

I don't know how Golesh will do, but so far it's evident he has a lot of energy so I expect him to win. Nearly every coach in our history has been able to win... hence why this isn't an "Auburn problem".

Every Auburn coach of the past 75 years:

Shug Jordan (25 years): won National title
Doug Barfield (5 years): failed
Pat Dye (12 years): 4 SEC titles
Terry Bowden (6 years): undefeated season
Tommy Tuberville (10 years): SEC title
Gene Chizik (4 years): National title
Gus Malzahn (8 years): SEC title
Bryan Harsin (2 years): failed
Hugh Freeze (3 years): failed

For 65 of the past 75 seasons, Auburn has had a head coach who either won a National Title, SEC title, or had an undefeated season. If Golesh puts any effort into this job he will certainly find success.

Heck if Terry Bowden and Gene Chizik can, anyone can they tries.

Let’s straighten up a few things.

Yes, the last time Auburn finished with a winning record was with Gus. What you left out is that Gus should have been fired many years earlier. To me he should have been fired immediately after the 2017 LSU game. He should have been let to walk after the 2017 Miracle at Jordan Hare and Kick6 rather than bending us over and going in dry. His final straw came after the 2020 season when Auburn finished 6-4 and he said “we finished with a solid record.”

Then after the former AD went rogue and hired a guy he shared a hot tub with we ended up with Bryan Harsin. Harsin may have been successful at Auburn in the 80s or early 90s but had no connect with his players… of a certain pigment… I believe one former player said something of the nature of “he from the north I understood him, I’m from the south he didn’t understand me.” Another said something along the lines of “he treated us like dogs.” Another “he wanted to win but didn’t understand players from disadvantaged backgrounds” another who was born and bred to play for Auburn, said he felt miserable and losing the fun” before becoming a Heisman finalist out west.

I don’t give a rats furry arse if Harsin won at Chris Petersons built Boise State. That attitude may have worked at Auburn decades ago but not in current day college football.

Now Freeze.

No one in the sec offices wanted Auburn to hire Freeze. Not many fans wanted it. But the AD and money men did. Freeze didn’t have the disconnect that Harsin had with the players. But he did with the sec. Last years roster SHOULD have won 9 games minimum. Bone headed calls, refusal to run the ball, and added absolutely horrendous calls made by sec officials and replay officials just all added up to Hugh appearing to start drinking and couldn’t handle the pressure cooker of playing UGA and Bama every year.

Will Golesh work out? Who knows. I hope so. I think so, but I was sure our roster last year would win 8 minimum.

But such is the life of an Auburn fan. The episode of SEC Shorts called the “Auburn fan experience.” Is absolutely spot on.

Which means. We comin… sometime. Then it’s right back to .500 for a couple years before we go on another run.

They had it even worse than we did in most of the 2010s.
