He was back in Tuscaloosa for a while after that. Used to see him in the barber shop from time-to-time. He spoke at the church here a little while back.

I agree. It’s going to suck only winning 10-11 games per year on average instead of 12-14

For Bama fans, it most certainly will

Isn't this the life-cycle of a sports fan, though?

In 60 years you'll be sitting in a nursing home, extolling the virtues of Joe Burrow and the 2019 "perfect season," and some youngster will tell you, "No one cares, you old frick, Central Arkansas over the past decade is the greatest dynasty that college football has ever seen."

He used to do the Nick at Noon intros.

Best damn emcee around. Sometimes Saban would be a few minutes late so Coach Kines would just tell stories.

Loved Joe Kines.

He once told Prince Hall he was one biscuit away from having his hand in the dirt

assuming they make a decent hire once the time comes.

Saban is only 68. Joe Paterno didn’t retire until he was 85; Saban still has many years left in him.

And I’m glad, too. He’s already losing his edge; Lane Kiffin exposed him last week and will probably beat him next year. Once Kiffin starts beating Saban, Alabama fans will be begging for him to retire so they can replace him with Kiffin.

There will definitely be an inflection point towards the end of Saban’s career (similar with Joe Pa) where fans want him gone but are stuck with him as his career drags out at the finish because based on what he’s accomplished, he gets to retire on his terms. And once Lane starts to beat him, it sure as frick won’t make him want to retire any time soon. It’s going to be hilarious to watch and will be the sweet sweet justice that Kiffin wants (for fans to be clamoring to have him replace Saban) and is exactly the reason he came to Ole Miss.

Joe was the Arkansas interim coach in 1992 after Jack Crowe was fired.I liked that guy.

I wanted him to get the job. He upset #4 Tennessee in Neyland and sort of got screwed for bringing in Ford to help. He had such a great attitude and seemed to really want the job, so I was all for him.

That’s as close to a yaw yaw kinda coach that we’ve ever had. Helluva defensive coach.

Joe Kines' best quote (and one of the best quotes I've ever heard from any coach) in the postgame:

"Our defense played weaker than my wife's iced tea — I love my wife, but my wife's tea is shite."

I'm a few years younger than you and I still know about the history of programs. Even without Saban Alabam is a top cfb program.
