We live in a new age of college sports.
The portal has turned it into a “one season” is all that matters because you start from zero each year.
Players move so much that looking at a program is getting more difficult. As the years go by, fan devotion will likely decline.
So win now is about all there is for a college program.
I disagree with this, program prestige absolutely still matters.

Unrestricted player movement and unlimited money has probably changed college sports.
Indiana won CFB. No history to lean on.
Money won the final 4. Granted Michigan had the fab 5 and won a NC, but there are many more “famous” basketball schools.
Will new fans really get into history when the team turnover of players is 50% per season?
Will the next generations revere sports as much as mine did?
I think it’s possible that people in general may tire of the flog that is going to games or even chasing television schemes of have to have several streaming subscriptions to make sure I don’t miss out on a 6-3/5-4 matchup.

To be fair, there have been two Georgia threads today about the size of the stadium so it would appear that at least two of you do.

You triggered LSU into giving up 36 runs to Georgia this weekend - 11 in game one, 13 in game two, 12 in game three (7 innings). Very consistent. LSU gave up 36 runs in 22 innings pitched.
I read only one LSU pitcher who played this weekend didn’t give up a run. And they threw almost everybody at the Bulldogs.

Prestige is still a huge factor and football is a good example.

Prestige matters.
It leads to money being spent on coaches and players.
Indiana, Oregon, Texas Tech, SMU sort of prove that with money, you can make the playoff.
Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama will have to spend as much or more money to keep making the playoff.
A big checkbook is probably the most important thing in college sports now.
This is not the 1920s, 1950s, 1980s, or even 2010s. This is pay for play to win at all costs.

Starting this thread is a terrible look for LSU fans and you should feel bad OP.

So all time matters for you in baseball but not football. How convenient for an LSU fan. Keep moving the goalposts
No, any championship before the 1947 season is irrelevant because there wasn't a NC game or tournament. Just like football, it was a popularity contest prior to that.
