The Death Penalty and how it affects conferences

I will not discuss any current allegations but they have brought some questions to mind. I really hope we can discuss this without calling out any schools except SMU and any other programs that have actually received the death penalty in any sport(for historical references). So I have questions about TV contracts, revenue and scheduling. IF a team got the death penalty, how would it affect conference TV contracts? Is there a clause in it for such a circumstance? Would the penalized school receive any, even a very small slice of conference revenue to help them get back together? Would the remaining conference schools split up the penalized schools share or would the conference bank it? Or would the network keep the share and give the conference less money during the years of the schools program being shut down? What about scheduling? A big conference can shuffle some conference games around and add another cross division game but what about smaller conferences that already play a round-robin? It would be hard to find a non-conference opponent on short notice. If conference schools could not find an opponent on short notice, would the NCAA grant waivers for them to only play 11 games and be bowl eligible at 5-6?

Won't be used again.

No team will ever get the death penalty again partially because of the issues you're raising.

The business is way too big for the NCAA to give the death penalty to a big conference school again.
I think the Penn State thing is as close as we ever get.

Dude OP is trying to have an actual discussion on the subject without trolling. Give it a fricking rest or get the frick out. You don't have to troll 24/7. People like you are the reason the Rant has turned into troll heaven and fricking sucks.
Edit: I RA'd that bullshite, hopefully someone else will too so a mod will see it.

Okay, a better response then...
I think that all conferences realize there's some shenanigans going on at a few of their better schools. It's the best for the conference in this current atmosphere to have great teams. It really does help the viewership, and it helps the conference overall when it comes time to negotiate TV contracts.
I think they pay them their full share and assume it was part of the way to do business, and in retrospect, the rise of viewers to the conference/money was worth it. Since that hasn't been brought up in a real current situation, we don't have anything to base our opinions on.
That being said, from what I've been told about the SEC (which is pretty much counter what I've seen from the rant), I think the conference would pay them.
That being said, I don't think the NCAA gives anything like the death penalty to a major school because the burden on the conference on a whole would be too large.
Same story as original, but more in depth.

Still tl;dr.
Cliff Notes. Nothing will come of this. Would be fun to imagine. Move along.

Just getting the post count up.
tl;dr: No team from a major conference gets fricked, ever.

Of course, if the NCAA wanted to "set an example" the minor schools would be easy pickings.

Still not sure why any of this matters. The chick that reported it was the same one who reported on Duke lacrosse. Her "former players" are saying they never said anything, and she has no recordings.
Dead issue.
Dead issue.

You're kind of reasonable. Are you sure this is the place you want to post as a Mizzou fan?

Based on what I e seen so far. YEP.

A better punishment is for the NCAA to:
1. Take away 10 scholarships per year for 5 years
2. Cut the number of player contacts and visits by half during the same 5 years
3. No bowl games for 5 years
4. No sharing in conference or TV revenue during the probation period
5. Cut the coaching staff in half for 5 years
6. Make them play on TV every week

Well, don't get too caught up. If you're reasonable and have knowledge, you'll be fine. When you get access, hit the Mizzou board. Welcome.

Which still amazes me.
Penn State broke committed exactly zero NCAA violations and the people involved were fired. The punishment is on all the wrong people.

You sir I completely agree with.

The NCAA is going all "Sins of the Father" for Penn State. No matter how much the school or the State of Pennsylvania tries to repeal the punishments, the NCAA still wants to make an example out of them.
