I appreciate that skill being displayed when everyone is ready to go over resorting to taking off to catch them off guard. It's like when you raced a buddy or a brother and took off before them and beat them to the spot. You didn't necessarily win because you were faster, you had a jump. It's not the same as lining up and both going at the gun.

2011 Ellis Johnson sums it up best. 2013 Ellis Johnson sounds like a puppet.

Sorry dead link.

2011 Ellis Johnson. “What it’s about now is who can snap the football before the other team lines up. You can’t hardly get your players on and off the field. You can’t get your signals in and out. It’s become who has the best signal system or verbiage system. “
“Frankly, I don’t know what that proves except someone has a better verbiage package. It’s not about blocking, tackling, running, route running, throwing, and so forth. It’s something the college football world needs to look at.”

Good point. Now when Auburn figures out how to stop a pro set pocket passer they can play for something other than second place.

You should have known that the barn trolls are going to come out to this statement. It's like when you're in the dorm at Auburn. There's a cornfield next door. You know the rats are coming in and you just can't stop them.

Nothing else needs to be said.

Plain and simple it's not how the game was meant to be played.

What qualifies you to make this statement? I mean if we follow your logic then we will all be playing rugby.

Said old farts when:

the forward pass was invented
Tom Landry changed the game
Bill Walsh changed the game...

That is phrase reserved for boring-arse sports like baseball.

Groundbreaking. Earth shattering. Head explodes. Did you come up with these entirely unique opinions on your own?

I had an entirely unique thought too. I wrote it down: "poop". You are welcome.

Plain and simple it's not how the game was meant to be played. My guys against your guys, 4 downs to get 10 yards line up ready set go. HUNH is gimmicky and success because defenses aren't ready so it's more about are guys ready and in position vs can my guy beat your guy head up. He'll if that's what you want to see let's just have a game of kickoffs and see who returns the most in 60 minutes. It would be akin to a pitcher firing pitches as soon as the catcher throws the ball back regardless of if the batter is ready. It soils the integrity of the game.

You can't handle the truth. Just because I haven't posted doesn't mean I and other people haven't grown weary of the incessant API crying, whining, and untolerable dribble.

They know it. Why do you think they have been so defensive?

The team of ’99—my last at Auburn—was a great one. It only weighed about 160 (pounds per player), but its speed and team work were something truly wonderful. I do not think I have ever seen so fast a team as that was. It would line up and get the ball in play at times before the opposing players were up off the ground. You see it was a ‘stunt’ of ours to catch them off side and get the benefit of the penalty. Nowadays no team is taken by surprise by such lightning lining up; but that Auburn team of ’99 was the first to show what could be done with speedy play, and then it wasn’t long before all other teams were laboring with might and main to inject speed into their work.

But it's the only way the lesser talented teams are able to compete with the Bama's and lsu's and Florida states of the world. Not everyone can sign Rashaan Evans and Leonard Fournette level athletes.

That's funny.

Yea, Auburn hasn't signed 6 five stars in the past two classes or anything.
