My opinion on this scenario:

Bama is in.

The ole miss loss at home to Bama and weak non-conference schedule eliminates them.

If Bama beats UT in SEC championship game UT is in and UGA is out because they would have lost to UT at home.

If Bama beats UGA then depends on the details of how UT lost to UGA as well as how Pitt and Oregon finish out to choose the 2nd team from the SEC.

Yeah, this scenario would certainly be interesting with 12 teams.

AQs will take a lot of spots, so we'll probably still be having similar arguments over the remaining few, especially after you consider conference runners-up across the board.

Ole miss winning the SEC championship game would eliminate this argument though for the sake of this hypo

I agree but the scenario in the original post says:

quote:

Bama runs the table and wins SEC championship Ole Miss wins out with the exception of the one loss to Bama

it's never been about "best" 4 and has always been about best resumes/most desreving. Been that way from the beginning.

The committee would never let more than two SEC teams in the playoff under the present setup.

That scenario is interesting and not beyond the realm of possibilities.

Can you imagine the angst among the big tenners if that scenario took place?

How about this scenario? And I’m using LSU because I’m a fan but it could be other teams too. LSU wins out and Ole Miss’ only loss ends up being LSU. Does a 2 loss SEC champ get in over a 1 loss non champ? Also you would have let’s say a 1 loss UGA whose only loss is the SECCG.

I think Bama and UGA are definitely in in that scenario. I think unless Ohio State and Clemson are both undefeated UT would get in as well.

Like others have said Rebs only get in if they go undefeated which nullifies the rest of the scenario.

If the OP's scenario played out and absolute chaos in the other conferences happened (all other conference teams with 2 or more losses), there would be a chance.

A couple years back a 1 loss Ohio St got in over
a 2 loss Penn St when Penn St was conf champ and beat Ohio St head to head. I think that was BS though.

That's easy. The SEC champ and the higher ranked of the other three.

Don’t want to piss off OM, but with the scenario of UGA-UT-Bama 1 loss round robin with Bama as the champs.. my belief is UGa and Bama would be a lock..

If OSU/ UM winner is undefeated B10 champ.
And Oregon is 12-1 PAC12 champ.

I want to say ACC eliminates itself somehow and b12 does too..

Who do you take between for 4th spot

PAC12 champ Oregon, 12-1 game 1 loss to UGA

Michigan , 11-1 , 1 loss to OSU

UT, 11-1, 1 loss to UGA

???

Yes, I remember that one. Big BS. I think we would get in over Ole Miss although I think both COULD get in depending on the other conferences. If it was a name like Alabama instead, it would go the way of Ohio State.

Auburn would have been in the playoff as a 2-loss champion in 2017 if they had beaten UGA in the SECCG.

Finebaum said earlier that if Georgia loses to TN, they are immediately out there f the picture.

Now, he didn’t actually explain why he believed that but I he’s never been wrong before. ??

Alabama is in.. they would have won the SEC plus have the biggest "intangibles" (code for popular name or bias in their favor)

Ole Miss is out. Weak schedule ooc would be the excuse but it would really be the intangible bias issue.

Georgia has the best name at present (between them and Tennessee) but either being blown out by Tennessee (regular season) or Alabama (ccg) would give Tennessee a chance.

Either Tennessee or Georgia getting blown out by the other arguably eliminates them unless the OSU, Clemson, USC programs also stumble

Maybe an all-SEC playoff.
