Maybe they just didn't want us getting in any sort of trouble but that is indeed the directions we were given.

Also, per legend, the bullet holes from when Long was killed are still noticeable on the first floor hallway.

The inside of the capitol is much better.

There are only three state capitols that make the list of the Top 100 buildings in the US in terms of architecture.

The Virgina state capitol
Nebraska state capitol
Texas state capitol.

Think Virginia has the best in terms of classical architecture.

Lexington was the capitol. Deal with it.

I posted from the state's own capital website, and you post a website for a local newsletter printer called Smiley Pete Publishing.

Even then, you didn't read your own article:

quote:

What? This isn't the way you learned the history of Kentucky? Leestown Road connects the Kentucky capital on the river to Lexington? Frank's Ford (later corrupted to Frankfort) is the capital of the Commonwealth?
Of course it is. So, how did Lexington lose out to a river settlement established just six years prior? How did the largest city west of the Alleghenies, the "Athens of the West," the "Queen of the Blue Grass" fail to become the state capital?

I'll grant you the first governor was sworn in in Lexington while the search for a capital was underway, but Lexington lost out to Frankfort in that search. Lexington was never named the capital, it was just the place the leaders got sworn in before a capital was chosen a few months later.

That's like a position coach saying he used to be a head coach because the head coach he worked for got fired before the bowl game one year and the AD asked him to fill in as coach for the bowl game while they looked for a replacement.

The Arkansas State Capital has been used in several movies as a replacement for the US Capital, including Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth.

It's basically the same on a 1/3 scale.

Louisiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee look pathetic.

Austin, FTW, My Hometown is the best. All Texas pink granite.

Can’t understand the negativity toward the Louisiana State Capitol. I know it has a dome but not the typical domed Capitol building like many others. I like that they are not like the others.

I like it too, but the architecture in their old one along with the history behind it makes me prefer that one. The newer one does look good lit up at night.

Thanks! Not sure why, either; I surmise they might be from jealous Texans.

Is that really Louisiana’s? My lord, what an ugly building.

Looks like it should be on Nazi propaganda poster.

The Louisiana Capitol is representative of the period in which it was built. It also is quite beautiful up close, with impressive statuary and details. Pictures from a distance really do not do it justice. The interior hall/lobby is really impressive and beautiful as are the legislative chambers. It certainly is a much more interesting and attractive building than the new Florida capitol.
