Eh Columbia as a whole was really really shitty when I visited. Yeah they cleanup the core downtown better than most(probably because Univ South Carolina is there, even though that campus is one of the oddest ones I've visited as well).

But man the surrounding areas were just awful. But they have some good suburbs to complement the terrible city itself.

Kentucky FTW

Kentucky's my favorite of the bunch, although they're all very nice.

Georgia's dome is gilded with native gold leaf from Dahlonega, GA., sight of America's first gold rush back in the 1830's. I remember the news way back in the 1960's about a man who attempted to climb the capitol dome with the intention of chipping some of the gold away. He didn't make it.

Also, per legend, the bullet holes from when Long was killed are still noticeable on the first floor hallway.

OK that makes it way cooler to me.

Columbia

Incorrect.

I just moved here in June, but have been pleasantly surprised.

Tons to do in and around the city from nightlife to recreation to family fun.

Plus, it's a couple of hours drive from any variety of cool spots from the mountains to the beach.

A group of my colleagues and our spouses got a chance to meet with Governor McMaster last month and received a private tour of the Capitol bldg. The grounds, history, decor and style of that bldg are second to none.

Very underrated city, imo.

As a whole, Nashville is the only SEC city that beats it out.
I don't dispute any of what you are saying

But look at your post

This is true of ALL the capitals

The city of Columbia IS a shithole, just as Atlanta is (inside the city limits, and Atlanta has Buckhead, which is awesome)

The outskirts of Atlanta are great, same for ALL the state capitals. Nashville is actually pretty decent even without having merged with the whole county, but that merger makes the whole city better

Kentucky's is in a random small town. It's nice and all but very out of place.
Kentucky's is in Frankfort because its dead between the two biggest cities in the state....Louisville and Lexington.

Lexington was originally the capitol. Louisville grew early on due to barge commerce down the Ohio and Mississippi and wanted the capitol to be there. The compromise was reached to put it in between in Frankfort.

I like the old Louisiana State Capitol better
It looks like a castle.

Mark Twain was certainly no fan of it.

“It is pathetic enough that a whitewashed castle, with turrets and things – materials all ungenuine within and without, pretending to be what they are not – should ever have been built in this otherwise honorable place; but it is much more pathetic to see this architectural falsehood undergoing restoration and perpetuation in our day, when it would have been so easy to let dynamite finish what a charitable fire began, and then devote this restoration-money to the building of something genuine.”

I’ve seen them. It’s 3 holes. Is it from when he was killed?

Supposedly.....

And I think the pencil thing was either from an explosion or a brawl. Can’t remember, but I’ve seen the pencil in the ceiling

agree that KY has the best looking building

They all look awesome except for Louisiana and Tennessee, with Louisiana being the worst by a mile (old LA capital is sweet though)

Georgia's almost literally hidden in downtown Atlanta with the surrounding skyscrapers.

You know it instantly by the gold dome, day or night.

Here in California (Sacramento) our's is ok looking...it does have very attractive grounds around it. Too bad the occupants are Constitutionalist treasonists...San Quentin would serve them much better.

SC's ... the only one still standing, with cannon ball dents, after a three day barrage by Sherman and a subsequent intentional burning.
