Because the B1G makes its own decisions while the SEC and ACC do what the mouse tells them. If Sankey was Smart, he would have an exit plan to escape,

Adding the two L.A. schools was a good move. Being the biggest conference for Fox, either the number 1 or 2 media partner in college football is a big deal too. Anyone saying otherwise is sour grapes.

But make no mistake that adding those two was a response to OU and UT. Both are bigger names and draws than the two you just signed.

Also, the next SEC media deal will dwarf this deal.

Are recruits still "lining up to commit to USC"?

This. A couple years ago everyone here was laughing at ESPN for all the cord cutting, calling them irrelevant, hating on them politically, etc. Now all of a sudden they are the greatest thing ever just because they won the bid war to get SEC games? There was much more than money at stake with the SEC's media negotiations than money and I sincerely think we hitched our long term wagon to a dying channel that will still have die-hard college football fans who can afford their future streaming service, but not the casual fans.

We essentially sold our entire conference to a Pay Per View network.

IF it goes to PPV then I will listen to the games on the internet and watch the highlights later.

However the SEC will still be winning NC whether the rest of the nation is watching or not.

The Big Ten is going to become (actually has already) the best paid losers

I wish Sankey had shopped this contract around more than he did. I don't like the idea of totally belonging to Disney.

I don't understand how the big ten got such a much better deal from their broadcast partners than the SEC did. The sports broadcasting industry is something I know nothing about. If some of you folks studied broadcasting in college perhaps you can enlighten us.

I don't believe the ratings numbers for the big ten schools not named Ohio St or Mich are that much different than SEC ratings numbers. Does anyone know?

My understanding is that the SEC and CBS have not been on good terms the last 5 years or so. Once the 50 mil per year CBS deal for our best weekly game plus title game got vastly below market (CBS is now paying B10 350 mil/yr for 2nd best game and no title game), the SEC attempted to renegotiate the current deal along with an extension. CBS refused. The SEC said if you don't renegotiate, we won't consider you when the deal expires (our only leverage). CBS was making so much money paying us pennies until 2024 that they said fine and walked away. At least that's the rumor.

The Big 10 makes it by having more tv sets.

And that is what will decide which conference comes out on top. . .

It hasn't so far and the BIG has had the TV revenue advantage for a while.

Ohio State is the reason the B1G makes so much. Sponsors pay big money for games vs Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and now USC and UCLA.

The SEC should receive more for their rights. I'm not bs'n when I brag on the B1G's leadership. They seem to be making all the right moves.

The SEC needs to find another partner besides ESPN.

I don’t know that the next SEC media deal will dwarf the Big 10’s but it will definitely be a great deal for the SEC.

Sankey and Warren are ahead of the game for sure. ESPN isn’t what it used to be and Fox is improving it’s coverage at warp-speed. The move to be on 3 networks without PPV is a great one.

The biggest difference between the SEC and the Big 10 is that the SEC is more of a Regional conference where as the Big 10, even before Los Angeles, was a national conference. The Alumni of the Big 10 are everywhere…the Alumni of the SEC stay regional for the most part. As a fan of college football in general I love watching both conferences on Saturdays. And having made trips down south for games, I can see why the Alumni would want to stay Regional.

I don’t know if I would say the SEC is a regional conference.

NHL is a regional conference.

NHL is regional??? NHL is the 2nd most watched professional league behind only the NFL.

I don’t mean any disrespect at all as I love watching the SEC…heck I like watching the late night PAC 12 games…haha.

Just making a point as to why the SEC may not have as great a media deal. Pretty much the reason CBS wouldn’t up the ante for the rights to the SEC. The Southeast is a beautiful area but the media markets aren’t the top 5. We all know that is what brings the $$$

The Big Ten and SEC switch places periodically in payouts and media deals. Honestly both conferences are not hurting for money or sponsors as both have the nation's eyes. These comparisons on the dollar amount is like a billionaire with 20 billion trying to make fun of a billionaire with 15 billion.

The real difference is what each does. The Big Ten, I guess, is just content to make the money and not really use it to improve their athletic departments to win NC in the major sports.

The SEC does improve their departments and wins titles. Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt (twice) all have won the college baseball World Series.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Florida have all won the NC in football during the last 15 years

Since the Big Ten's last NC in basketball (2000), the SEC has won three
