Notre Dame to the SEC would be a coup, and the Big10 would shite. That's why they can't let it happen.

ND can choose if it wants to go to either conference, but neither is going to go for unequal revenue sharing or take ND for just football. Both will add another team to bring in ND and keep stuff even because ND has that kind of value.

I'm guessing that would be going to the Big 10, possibly paired with Stanford who is one of the teams ND wants to play every year. But I honestly don't know if the money works for either the SEC or Big 10 to add anyone else in a move that doesn't include ND. The available teams aren't profitable enough.

Everyone involved in that decision has been dead for decades, though I don't exactly blame the SEC for not running to bring us back either.

I didn’t know the story, so I had to look it up.

So GT gave the SEC an ultimatum, the SEC said nope.. and GT walked out the door. Is there more to the story?

That’s about right, plus at the time Bobby Dodd thought Tech could thrive as an independent. Unfortunately he was very, very wrong (and also a lousy AD after he retired from coaching). It’s also why I think our stadium should not have his name on it.

Texas might have had been part of the problem by influencing the outcome of the GT breakup with the SEC. ;)

I apologize. Clemson draws more interest than OU. I was mistaken. Also, FSU does better. Ok, I’ll take Clemson and FSU because you’ll add value but that’s it.

Notre Dame does not want to be part of the B1G or they could have been there yesterday.

Take the top 40, split them between the BiG and the SEC and play ball

Looking at the number, the ACC draws 1/3 the eyeballs of SEC. No interest in football in the Carolina’s and Virginia. I’ve already stated my apologies to clemson and FSU fan. Without those two schools, the ACC is not a Power 5 conference.

The only schools other than the above-mentioned which I would consider for future SEC membership are ND and TCU.

So here is my choice. Add FSU, Clemson, ND and TCU.

Go to two divisions of 10 teams East and West

East: Clemson , Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee , Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, FSU, Kentucky.

West: Texas, A&M, OU, Arkansas, Missouri, LSU, Ole Miss, MISS ST, TCU, ND

4 permanent each division, 2 permanent other division, 4 games rotated, 2 non conference games.

It must be off season because I’m bored

The ACC wasn't even a major conference until FSU joined. Their champ played in the Citrus or Gator Bowl. Basically an east coast version of the WAC.

I’ve lived in Raleigh and Blacksburg and their fans are full SEC level devotees in football. Perfect fit if the two elitists balk. I swear some of y’all in the Deep South think anything north of the Georgia state line is a yankee ??

The B10 has no strong academic schools outside of Northwestern, UMich, Wisco, and Illinois.

The SEC has Vandy, UF, UGA, and A&M’s endowment.

UNC and UVA will go to the SEC before they go to the B10. The Midwest is a sad higher academic region in general. Probably the second worst in the country after the West (which has no strong national schools outside of California).

lol you mean other than the fact that they are all AAU schools * and all are rated in the top 105.. including all of their potential expansion candidates.

* Nebraska is the red headed step child as they lost their AAU status and they aren’t ranked in the top 100 anymore

As for the viewer numbers above.. those definitely matter, but you can’t look at them in a vacuum either.

Oklahoma was horrible last year, and that combined with playing regional schools.. that doesn’t add up to many eyeballs. I’m guessing their numbers are significantly better every year for the last 20 years.

You have to speculate a little bit.

For example, dropping USC into the B1G is going to send their numbers through the roof. If Caleb Williams was still gonna be there, they might end up #1 next in viewership next year.

Texas should have huge numbers in 2024. Going to Michigan and an SEC schedule.

So the question is..

Would Clemson and FSU create a schedule that fans want to see in the SEC?

Perm: Each other

Alabama or Auburn
Georgia or Florida
LSU or Texas A&M
Texas or Oklahoma

I would guess all 9 of those games would have pretty good ratings, regardless of how you paired them up.

Could you say the same for UNC or UVA? I don’t think so unless one of them is really good.

TCU made the playoff, that’s why they had good numbers last year. They are a small private school. At least compare their numbers to other years before jumping off that bridge.

Any school that makes the playoff will have good viewership numbers.. even Vanderbilt.

We had a horrible year and still made inside the Top 25 once again TV wise which is why we’re the next best option in the big 12. Okstate Vs Texas and Bedlam both draw better numbers than Red River or just as much. We’ve been to a bowl game almost 20 years straight.
We have the athletic infrastructure, funding, and alumni base in Dallas/Texas as well. If Oklahoma State had SEC TV money..damn. Plus Fayetteville is 2 hours away and it gives us a regional game back.

you don’t have to sell me brother.. I would be happy to add Ok State. I personally think that Texas, OU, A&M, Arkansas and Missouri will be the division at 20 teams. If we go to 24 teams, we will need a 6th, and not that my vote counts, but I would pick Ok State next. You guys are good in all sports too. WVU is another good option for the SEC imo.. if a division over there needs another team..

Yeah, that’s not correct. The majority of big ten schools, academically, are very strong. Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan State would be viewed as the weaklings in terms of academics.

And, Texas has a considerably larger endowment than Texas A&M. The majority of Big Ten schools, however, will have a larger endowment than any SEC schools not named Texas, A&M, and Vanderbilt.

Wow, the surprise to me is neither of the Arizona schools are on the list. I figured they would bring some eyeballs, particularly ASU, due to Phoenix and large school enrollment.
