Per Bleacher report, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, and Virginia are studying whether the ACC’s Grant of Rights can be broken. Get out the re-alignment popcorn again

Somewhere I read that 50% of members can void the contract. Problem will Disney. We need to assimilate you and OU before biting off anymore. I see these teams teaming with some pac 12 leftovers and some independents and forming new league etc. I really don’t want FSU and Clemson

No, they're scrambling for invites to the SEC and B1G. 8 slots remaining between both conferences to get to 20.

It sucks, but I'm a pragmatist.

I don’t like the thought of having the U in the SEC but feel we need to lock down the Miami area for recruiting. Need to lock down Florida altogether actually by taking FSU as well. No way do we want the Big 10 in the panhandle.

Next would be Clemson to keep the Big 10 out of SC as well.

Based on geography, Georgia Tech (I do know they’re not part of this group of seven) would be next though I don’t know what value they add other than keeping the Big 10 out.

Would love to have NC and NCState. Ok State wouldn’t be terrible. VA and VA Tech would be okay. Don’t think we have room for any of them, however.

No desire to add KU or KState. At one time I would have liked to have had WVU but after living here for the last four years realize that in most ways, they are no where close to SEC caliber. The fans travel well and they have some good programs but it’s yankee ball and their favorite cheer “Eat Shitt Pitt” is ……. embarrassing. Chanting it one time at one point in a game is sort of humorous but over and over is just tacky as hell and shows no imagination whatsoever.

I don’t think the B1G will take FSU or Miami. The people making decisions care a lot about the CIC and AAU.

Yes, sports are important, but the CIC is the real moneymaker in the B1G. Billions and Billions of academic research money shared yearly.

AAU means you spend a shitload on research. That isn’t to say one or both of them couldn’t make AAU.. but they aren’t AAU right now. Miami is a pretty small private school, but they are a good school.

Just looked it up.. Miami is a R1 (Research 1) level school.. so they are on the doorstep of being AAU.. not sure how close they are. Notre Dame is also a R1 school.

If the B1G added those 2, that would turn realignment upside down.

I'm up for going to 20 teams in a mega SEC if it means we can split into two divisions and revive the original 10 (Legends division) and put the other 10 (Leotards) in another playpen.

it sounds like there was not enough money to invite in Oregon and washington to BiG with previous alignment. Why will there be that much more money for 20? At some point, it is law of diminishing returns. I think this is attempt to get more leverage to increase their current contract.

What's the financial or other advantage?

So far there's no evidence we get more money per school.

Even if there's a financial payout you'd have a fundamentally different conference with likely fewer of the games we enjoyed.

What the B1G looks like @ 24 or 28

USC
UCLA
* California
* Stanford
* Oregon
* Washington
If they go bigger
* Colorado or Utah or Arizona

Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Iowa
If they go bigger
* Kansas or Missouri

Ohio State
Penn State
Indiana
Purdue
Illinois
Northwestern
If they go bigger
* Pittsburgh or Rutgers or Maryland

* Notre Dame
* UNC
* UVA
* Ga Tech or Miami
Rutgers
Maryland
If they go bigger
* Miami or GT or Pittsburgh or Duke

I do find it interesting that Ga Tech is not one of the schools looking to breach the contract. They would be a potential match for both the SEC and B1G.

UVA and UNC are most certainly talking to the B1G

FSU, Clemson, VT & NC State are definitely talking to the SEC

Miami could go either way.

Perhaps ND wants Miami instead of GT.

From their perspective.. a huge gap in money

From the SEC or B1G.. if they had a plan to break apart from the NCAA, potentially a big difference if you had less mouth’s to feed from the playoff revenues. The TV money would potentially be better as well if the smaller conferences didn’t have to be paid as much.

Complete speculation on my part, but it’s always about money, so if the SEC or B1G move, it’s for that reason. Short term, it may not make that big of difference.. but long term, it may make a huge difference.

don't see a reason for Clemson to leave ACC especially with 12 team playoff coming. Clemson has plenty of money and part of Clemson's appeal is the underdog role.

Clemson is not an "underdog"

I get that argument.. I do.

But in 5 years or so, the numbers I have seen are around $100 million for each SEC school and around $50 million for each ACC school.

Over a 20 year period.. that’s a billion more dollars that each SEC school has to spend on coaching, facilities, etc. That’s not peanuts.

I read that some of the PAC schools may come in with a lower share that works it’s way up to a full share on the next contract.

Clemson has had less money than other colleges but has still won 3 national titles. More money doesn't mean much once you reach a certan level.

Ok. I’ll let Sankey know that Clemson is out, FSU, Miami, Va Tech and NC State are in.

Meanwhile the B1G is taking UNC and UVA.

Have fun playing Wake, Duke, UConn, Boston College, etc.

Exposure as equally important as money for the premier teams. Clemson will be hurting terribly for exposure if they stay in the ACC.
