Hawgeye, Add Trey Flowers to the DE newcomers.
This kid is gonna be good. Tank Wright singled him out first when asked about the newcomers yesterday. Tre Flowers #88 on film #1 in your hearts.

So yall losing those three, along with possibly Knile Davis and you think Arky's offense will be better?
Losing Davis would hurt, but we are loaded at WR and some people say its a "system" anyways. We will have a senior QB and experienced OL with 3 senior RBs. We would still have hamilton...we just need the young WRs to step up

Who would be the RB if Davis left? What year is Johnson?

He will likely get a medical redshirt for last year so he will be a senior next year. Wingo, Green (with his injury this year), and Johnson will all be seniors. Thats why we should take a lot of RBs for the 2013 class and would love to get tenpenny

I doubt Davis leaves this year. It is my understanding that Davis promised his dad he would get his degree. If you know anything about that story it would lead you to believe he will be back for his senior season.
I also firmly believe Davis will get less carries this year with Dennis Johnson being healthy again. That also would be a reason he would stay, as his stock may not be high enough to get drafted in round 1 or 2.

Arky has officially taken the crown from bama as the Circle Jerk Kings.
Congrats.
Can we please get a bama rep in here to pass the crown?

I actually don't think our defense will be terrible in 2012. We have definitely upgraded the talent there, but I would expect a little drop off.
How exactly has the talent been upgraded? The recruiting rankings for Arkansas are pretty meh as usual. Is Petrino racking up on diamonds in the rough?

But you have to replace all those bad arse receivers after this year, right?
Most of the 'replacements' are already in place. Lots of young talent already on campus. PLUS, when we add Green-Beckham....

Petrino's recruiting has dropped off a bit since that 2009 class. 2011 was pretty good, 2010 and 2012 class looks pretty poor. Petrino really needs to recruit more quality defensive players. He will attract good offensive players and his system is good for it, but I'd be concerned if I was an Arky fan after this year defensively losing those senior players and who will be replacing them. Petrino hasnt landed many stud defensive players recently, and Winston, the one he has, hasn't panned out great.

Arkansas' defense has improved each year under Petrino. The new crop of defenders just brought in are overall bigger and better than what we are used to getting. You put way too much stock into recruiting sites.

3 of our new LB's from this years class are bigger and faster than the guys we've got on campus right now and will see PT this year.
All of our DT's are young as well.
Rivals won't ever rank our cruits as highly as Bama/Aubie/LSU/FL etc. Maybe one day, but not right now.

The size and athleticism of the new defensive guys far surpass the first recruiting classes that Petrino had. We stocked up on D-linemen in our second class, but were lacking at linebacker and in the secondary. These last two classes have filled those positions with bigger, taller, and faster guys than we have seen before coming out of high school.
I'm not really concerned about the difference between a 5.7 3* and a 5.8 4*, because it is minimal. Of course, not all of them are rated like that, but we did lead the nation in 5.7 3*'s hence the ongoing joke.
I know this sounds like I'm blowing smoke, but those of us who have been following the hogs for years know that these athletes we are getting now are far better than what we have got in the past.

Don't see how this pertains to him not landing many stud defensive players. Arky had a decent defense last year and should again this year because of players recruited several years ago. Bequette, Tank, Franklin, Thomas, Nelson...all seniors.

This means nothing if they aren't very talented.

You're ignoring recruiting all-together in this aspect because you know you haven't been landing very good defensive players recently. Arkansas doesn't have a single defensive commit right now that's even a 5.7 3* on rivals or higher out of the 15 commits. You can't possibly sit here and say that doesn't concern you. On top of that, just look at these defensive players you're landing, ignore their rank, they arent getting offers from big-time schools.

Are this much in denial about your defensive recruiting? The same guys you're beating your chest over are the same guys the Alabamas, LSUs, UFs, etc...would be going "WTF why did we offer him"

Tank is a junior
All we're saying is we wont be pushed around physically anymore. Petrino is recruiting big guys with speed and molding them. Most of the guys you just listed weren't highly recruited either

Tenarious Wright
Jerry Franklin
Tramain Thomas
Jerico Nelson
By no means do I think Petrino is tearing it up recruiting wise on defense but contrary to what you are saying I think he is recruiting a better quality athlete now than the guys that you mentioned. Only one of those guys was rated above 5.6 by Rivals too.
We aren't recruiting guys that are going to tear up the SEC as FR but we have a pretty legit S&C program that has done a good job of molding these 3* guys in to an above average SEC defense.
We are never going to have a defensive unit on the level of Bama, LSU or Florida but as long as we can stay around 5th or 6th and keep the offense humming then we should be fine.
His defensive recruiting may not be filled with star power like everyone likes but his offensive recruiting has been well above what we are used too.
