The meeting took place a few days after Alabama won the national championship in January. Two days later, Brown was approached by the former regent to consider retiring. Brown, who had just finished his 15th season, said he did not want to quit and the matter was dropped.
If Saban had said yes, does anyone seriously think that the matter would have ended with Mack saying that he didn't want to quit?

Regent Wallace Hall of Dallas told the AP he spoke by telephone with agent Jimmy Sexton a few days after the Jan. 7 game. Tom Hicks, a former regent who is the brother of current Regent Steve Hicks, also was on the call. Tom Hicks, the former owner of the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars and the English professional soccer team Liverpool, was a regent in 1997 when Brown came to Texas and was instrumental in hiring him away from North Carolina.
Two days after the call with Sexton, Tom Hicks met with Brown over lunch and told him about the call, according to several people who spoke with the AP. He asked Brown if he was ready to retire.
Brown, who had just finished his 15th season at Texas, said he wanted to keep coaching and the matter was dropped

Mack Brown said Wednesday he will "never get over" the Longhorns' 37-21 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship game.
Brown, who was speaking at his annual press conference for national signing day, sometimes exaggerates his emotions for effect when talking about the past. But it was easy to see that he was serious about this one.
There was hurt in his eyes and pain in his voice.
"I don't think I'll ever recover from it," Brown said in his first comment about the loss since Jan 7. "I don't think I've ever been that hurt from a football game, to see the look on those kids' faces.

Maybe this is a silly question, but what is a regent?

Jimmy sexton would talk to me if he thought he could get 4% of 10 million bucks off of me. That's his job

Something like a trustee.

I hate bama and I hate saban and would love to see the meltdown ny you gumps if it happened.
shite talk aside, this would take a lot if air out of the rivalry. I have to respect what you've done under him. I do think he's at least thinking hard about what it would do for his name to win it all with a 3rd program.
Don't take that statement as me being nice because really frick you. Every one of you.

Like a board member. You might call them board of directors. We call them regents for some reason.

Hey, I just figured out how to unite the fanbases of the top three SEC West teams in hatred for something.

1. Not gonna happen.
2. Not gonna happen.
3. If by some Texas miracle it does... thanks to an awesome 7 yrs and 3 NC's(perhaps 4) and best of luck. Also thanks for running a clean program and re-establishing Bama as THE authority in College Football.
