Tough news for Texas but on a serious note, do we think this guy was getting really overrated? I understand he was a 5-star back in high school but his yards per carry were much lower than other Texas backs last season and if you look at PFF he was the lowest graded Texas RB last season (74.4 overall, which is still good, but definitely lower than all others I'm seeing). Brooks was a 91.5 and Blue was a 77.2.

We had two backs on the Doak Walker watch list

Sucks for CJ and I wish him a speedy recovery, but we're RBU.

Sips can shed more light, but I’ve heard the following:

Baxter is the more complete back at 220 pounds

Blue is the speedster at 200 pounds

Brooks was playing hurt all of last year. He wasn't just a highly recruited guy, he was the #1 ranked RB in the country coming out of high school. Sark, who has seen some RBs and knows a bit about offense, started Baxter as a true freshman over Jonathan Brooks, who ended up being the first RB taken in the NFL draft.

Texas has a lot of quality RBs, but this sucks and there is no good way to spin this.

Report is a PCL and LCL and out for the year. Unusual injury- assume it got hyper extended on a knee hit.

Thoughts are with this young man. That sucks.

Here's to hoping he comes back and has a monster RS Soph campaign and gets drafted early in 2026.

Hate to see kids lose a year due to injury. Hope he heals fully and gets back to full speed asap.

(insert a long string of obscenities here)

We were pretty deep at every position, this doesn't help matters at all. We still have some horses in the stable, Jaydon Blue may be one of the fastest players on the team and #1 RB out of Texas the year he came to UT. we also have a promising soph and two highly rated Freshman RB's, but this still sucks.

Not so much. Texas put 2 running backs in the NFL each of the last two years. The RB room is stacked.

If Baxter is out then reload with Blue. He is faster too.
No, he's right it's a huge blow. RB is the one position with most injuries throughout the season, and the one coming up should be longer than usual. I'd much rather have the young backs being change of pace or breathers for Baxter/Blue, not having to handle a huge load their first season.

Blue is fast . . . he is also a bit of a wildcard. He looked good against Washington and Tech for sure. After him you have some PWOs and a true freshman.

So not quite the easy reload scenario you hope for.
As much as aggy obsesses over "tee yew" I would expect you to know the roster better. We have 3 scholarship backs behind Blue, Tre Wisner who showed promise last year and two highly rated freshmen...and then a walkon who was on our baseball team last season.

Running back is more than just catching and running. Baxter is pivotal in the pass blocking game and leadership as well

So their starting RB is a guy who missed the last regular season game of his Sophomore year bc Senior captains voted for him not to play even though they needed to win their last game to make the playoffs. And gets kicked off the team his senior year or quit. Neither a nice option.

Per 24/7 Texas paid site. He’s a preseason all sec and Doak Walker watch list. Freshman All American last year.

Went down in practice with a knee injury and all they are saying is awaiting MRI results, which almost always means ACL.

Those high end trainers know by doing three quick tests if he’s done or not. They would have announced if it was a sprain or dislocation

I hate to see any kid be done for the year like that. Huge blow to the Longhorns offense

I wonder how injuries like this are going to play into the NIL when boosters realize they just paid big money on a guy and will be getting 0 return.

Our Doak Walker watch list, 5 star RB just tore his ACL....but it's ok, the backup is better!"

Biggest fallacy in CFB is next man up. Coaches don’t leave players in the bench who are ready to play. Experience goes a long way even if that player is not the physical specimen that the younger player is.
