The comparison to Ole Miss could be spot on. A couple of things that Ole Miss may have over the Vols. Coral was really effective and scrambled well right out of the chute, Yeboah was the best TE in the league not named Pitts, and I think Elijah Moore was one of the best WR's in the conference if not the best.

Not sure I know what the headman thinks about a balanced offense, but that probably won't get answered until they play for real anyway. Even if the vols want to do anything inside the red zone besides kicking field goals it's going to be hard given they lost so much at the running back position and offensive line. Harrison Bailey and the new guy from Michigan, or someone playing QB, better have some wheels. Cause he is going to have to give this new style some legs all season to sustain drives.

Heupel is a good coach. Don't let the trolls get to you. His question marks will be program building. In terms of gameday coaching, he is well ahead of Kirby. Not on Mullen's level, but you can't fault him for that. He is in the same boat as Harsin. Gonna have to show competence on the field, then bodies will come.

Lost 1 RB to transfer that will be missed. They will utilize RB by committee with Evans, Smalls, Hodge, Wright as the main 4 with Beckwith and Whitehead big backs. The Heupel O rarely features just 1 but has shown that multiple backs can contribute meaningful yards

Those backs are better and more experienced than Gray and Chandler? They’ll pick up pass blocking? You can’t compete in the SEC without 2 good and experienced RBs. You have none.

Dobbs was decent but wildly inaccurate

Dobbs was singlehandedly responsible for about half the wins we got while he was here. He wasn't the most accurate but certainly more than anything we've seen since. His intangibles propelled this team to a decent level of success despite Butch's complete ineptitude. He covered up so many deficiencies in the offense with his leadership, legs and decision making. When he left, we tanked hard. I was among the people who really didn't appreciate him until he was gone.

Gray was a special RB and Chandler was a decent blocker but neither did both well. Looks we are not talking about competing to win the SEC this year by any stretch. We are talking about being good enough to win 6-7 games.

Bowling Green, TN Tech, UofSC, Vandy, S Bama are gimmes, teams that Tennessee should be able to just out talent.

Pitt, Mizzou, UK, Ole Miss are the toss ups. 1-2 out that group is your 6-7 wins.

Florida, Bama, UGA would be huge upsets at this point. And highly unlikely. I do question if Florida will score this year because they lost a ton but they get the nod until proven otherwise.

See, this is what gets Vols in trouble.

Gray was special. Chandler only had experience over the other backs, he's was just a body. As was Tim Jordan behind him. if Chandler stayed he would have been at most 3rd behind Small, maybe even 4th behind Evans. Small has much better burst and runs much more violent than Chandler ever did. Chandler was too lean to be a feature back, too stiff to be a scat back. He was a good reciever out of the backfield.
