Agree/Disagree?

quote:

Three of five analysts picked the Vols to win the SEC in the CBS Sports conference predictions for the 2020-2021 season. They just edged out the Kentucky Wildcats, who came in second and were the only other team to receive votes to win the league. All five had those teams in the top two.

Gary Parrish, Jerry Palm and David Cobb all picked Tennessee basketball to win. Matt Norlander and Kyle Boone picked Kentucky. Here is what was written about the reasoning for the Vols to be the favorite.

quote:

It took a few years for Rick Barnes to get things going at Tennessee. But now that he has things going, he really has things going, and there’s a chance this season’s team could be his best at UT yet, and I write that knowing full well that his 2017-18 team won the SEC and 2018-19 team made the Sweet 16. These Vols have three former five-star prospects, two of whom project as possible one-and-done players, and enough experience to compete at the top of the sport. So while I’m not necessarily predicting that Barnes is about to take Tennessee to its first Final Four in school history, I’m definitely not ruling it out.

I don’t have a problem with it as I think they will be right there competing for the title but I just don’t get why they are getting ranked so much higher than LSU. Both teams returned similar production and added similar recruiting classes and transfers. Add that LSU was better last year and I think they should project pretty close but espn has tennessee like 15 spots higher in the way to early rankings. I don’t get what I’m missing.

Well just based on the CBS projections, they are not far at all behind Tennessee at all. Most have LSU third.

I think Joe opting out knocked us back a few pegs in most folks eyes. I still think this should be an excellent Arkansas team. We might not win the SEC but I think there is a very good chance we play spoiler.

How's Auburn looking this year? I imagine they would still be good. Guessing Kentucky, Tennessee, LSU, Bama, Arky, and maybe Florida and Auburn near the top.

In 2018, you were one of the few people who called out that my Tigers weren't getting the respect they deserved. How do you see Pearl's team competing this year?

Tennessee should be the pick to win the SEC with what they have coming back plus coming in. Kentucky has a whole new team that will take some time to jell. Many will write them off, but when they do jell, look out.

Will be interesting to see who wins the final starting spot between Josiah and Vescovi. Keon, Pons and Fulky are locked in as starters and Springer seems pretty likely to start as well.

Then you have the two transfers as prominent rotation pieces. All of last year’s bench guys will be fighting for scraps with the possible exception of Nkamhoua who Barnes absolutely loves.
