Imagine saying no to a pay cut when you make more than 95% of the country.

I agree. Clearly the amount they make is justified with the on-field product.

Agreed, this sounds more like they know they’ll be looking for jobs soon

When you may not be long for this world you take the cash while you can get it.

Also, screw the universities. Don’t sign contracts if you aren’t prepared for all contingencies and all the ramifications.

That's a staff that knows it's fixin' to be shite-canned sooner rather than later.

They also currently have less job security than 95% of the country.

You have to put yourself in their mindset. 98% of football coaches never make any serious money. They start as grad assistants at 22 and spend the next 20-30 years getting shite pay, working long hours, forfeiting their Saturdays to work, and moving their families around the nation every 2-4 years.

When the select few FINALLY start making big money later in their careers, they feel like they have put in their time and earned it.

Really doubt there will be a bloodbath in a year with so much revenue loss, but even if there was, they'd be paid handsomely to frick off-

The huge assistant salaries are basically a relatively new phenomenon. In the year 2000, there were only 3 HEAD coaches that made $1 million+.

At some point, ADs have to quit throwing the Monopoly money around. I'd get it if I could too, but there's just no way some assistant TE coach or whatever should be pulling down a half million a year.
