People will whine but the only way to fix the current system is to blow it up.

The system is barely hanging on and the NCAA was stupid for trying to bring out the hammer on someone.

The only thing they are doing is hurting themselves. Do Tenn and the Virginia schools think they will compete with the Texas usc, osu Michigan schools if it’s a spend at will?

Tennessee has no less than five (5) billionaire alumni donors, and several worth 100s of millions. We just spent $8 million on a QB.

Tennessee can compete dollar for dollar with anyone.

LSU is the one with a $4 million deficit last year.

This sport is a joke. Not the sport itself, but the entire organization. The conferences need to come together and create some kind of structure.

Ok...here is my take (that and $.50 will get you a cup of coffee where I work).

We can all agree that the implementation of NIL has been horribly managed/implemented. While I believe that the NCAA is a horrible institution that needs to be burned down and rebuilt...it wasn't the NCAA that wanted NIL. The US Supreme Court affirmed lower court rulings that restrictions on Name, Image and Likeness regulated by the NCAA violated Anti-Trust laws.

Outside of the court case...who has ever heard of Shawne Alston? He's a running back from WVU that had 3 games in his 4-year career where he rushed for over 100 yards (vs Iowa State, Marshall and Rutgers). Even with today's free market NIL deals...I don't know that this guys would garner much of anything. But his lawsuit (in conjunction with the Ed O'Bannon case), are what brought about the change. The NCAA couldn't go against the US Supreme Court. That's how we got here.

You have obviously not spent much time around Energy or Real Estate speculators. They get rich using leverage and taking risk right up to the edge of the cliff then happily drive right over into a fireball of losses. Lots of former billionaires and centimillionaires running around Dallas and Houston and the rest of the world for that matter.

No one should consider these people crafty or shrewd. Ballsy maybe . . .risk loving for sure.

But the idea that THIS being the reason it dies off is a good thing is foolish. NIL is getting LESS regulated.

Shut the frick up, mouth breather. You thought UT was gonna get hammered. They’re not. You don’t like it. Eat shite. Go paint your fingernails like that cocksucker Ryan Williams.

It’s over as soon as the dust settles on this suit.

Thanks UT (not sarcasm)!

We should’ve done this when they came after Wade, but it was just a hair too soon at that time. Think everyone agrees at this point, it’s past due. Time for a new league.

Y'all will cheer about this but then when players start demanding $5 million a year because there are now rules in place and they start leaving in the middle of the season, y'all will be crying and saying college football is dead

Nah. NCAA is blocking revenue sharing & still pretending NIL (donations only) isn’t pay for play. Hoarding TV revenue.

You can’t regulate anything until we agree to call it what it is. A semi-pro football league would be able to apply for an antitrust exemption like the NFL & employ salary caps etc.

We can’t have any of that until football & basketball are decoupled from the NCAA.

Yes, this is another domino toward the real/literal death of college sports — but a properly regulated league will be better than the future continued under the NCAA’s model.

No, they will finish the contract year, just like the NFL.

The amateur game of college football is dead. It is now a pro league.

College football is already dead. Just need somebody to perform the last rites and throw dirt on the grave.

well to be honest CFB has been living on borrowed time for a while now. Colleges really have no business running minor league football. NFL should have their own developmental system, college sports should all be club based.
