If you look at the top returning QBs for 2025 seaaon, many have been with same school entire career:
Arch Manning at Texas
Drew Allar at Penn State
Garrett Nussmeier at LSU
Case Klubnik at Clemson
It's year 2 for Arch, I don't think "entire career" means that much nor would I call him a top returning QB since he didn't really do anything in year 1.
Look at the top performing QBs from last year, statistically:
- Kyle McCord: transferred from OSU
- Cam Ward: transferred twice
- Jaxson Dart: transferred from USC
- Garrett Nussmeir
- Shedeur Sanders: transferred from J State
- Will Howard: transferred from KSU
- Josh Howard
- Dillon Gabriel: transferred twice
- Chandler Morris: transferred twice
- Cade Klubnik
7 of the top 10 statistical QBs transferred at least once, three transferred twice.
CFB is a shitshow

It's Manning's 3rd year at Texas.
In the Trasfer Portal / NIL era, it's not that common for a 5 Star QB to sit for 2 seasons, which was why I included him.

He gone
Who are you wishing him to go to? LSU? That would keep Tennessee from making the playoff over LSU.
You are one special android.

Nussmeir completed 64% of his passes for 29 tds and 12 interceptions
That’s not a top returning qb

Death throes of this sport.
Amazing how quickly they destroyed collegiate sports. So many to blame.
Greed began with the schools...spread to the coaches/agents...and ultimately to the players/agents/families. Human nature to want "your cut"...but the current trajectory isn't sustainable...and it's mainly the portal/transfer issues. The courts went hyper woke in 2020 like the rest of the country and felt any restrictions and guardrails at all were "racist" or some shite. Congress has to enact legislation at this point...and I hate to say it...but there's no other way.

I mean, this is what Judkins did to Ole Miss. He kept trying to renegotiate after making an agreement, over and over. Kiffin finally got sick of it, plus he was a cancer. Ohio State got him for less money, but he got a ring. He would have helped us a lot!
Some of these kids have too many advisors and zero loyalty.

No returning QB threw for more yards.
Only returning QBs Cade Klubnik (36) and Chandler Morris (31) threw more TDs.
Lots of returning QBs with a better completion %.

And that's why CFB is dying at a rapid rate. Fans are loyal to their school, even if the fan did not attend said school. I didn't attend the school of which I am a fan (went elsewhere) but I grew up being a fan and therefore remained a fan, though my fandom is decreasing at an increasing rate (an old macroeconomics term) due to the fact the players have no loyalty. In the past, one could look forward to the next season by the fact QB1, RB1, the entire DL, etc. was returning. Now you need a cheat sheet just to know who will start where.
It's turning into another semi-pro/minor league/second tier league situation (kinda like the UFL) and we know how those have worked out. Lose the loyalty of the college fanbase and we won't have to worry about NIL, etc. It will end up just another bus league like Double A baseball.

Tennessee shouldn’t pay him more.
He is not an elite level college football QB.

Agreed. I’d much rather drive up to Johnson City and get Cade McNamara from ETSU for a serviceable year then pay this guy $4M.
That Arkansas game alone last year proved he ain’t worth it.
Also, kudos to Dan Lanning for telling Heupel and the Tennessee staff that Nico’s peddlers were shopping him around.

Hope Neyland comes alive against Nico in Oct/Nov when it turns out he fleeced UTk for more NIL

I say let him go not worth what we are paying him now
