Venables might be able to do that, but he HASN'T YET.

I'm not making "hope and prayer" predictions. I'm simply telling you what Venables has shown and explaining that you'll get away with that a lot less in a conference with more talented competition from top to bottom.

Venables coached teams at OU have thrown up a lot of duds in his 2 years at the helm. Every first year coach can be forgiven for their first year, but even last year OU was not consistent and had a lot of close wins and losses to extremely low talent teams.

There is a completely valid reason for OU being projected where they are in the SEC this year It's because so far, that's what Venables has shown is he'll do. His resume is NOT impressive. OU looks a lot like A&M with him as the coach.

also, ou has a whole new offensive line and qb. that is going to cause them problems for at least part of the season. if this was arnold's second year and they were bringing some good offensive linemen back, they'd be getting prredicted for another win or two

Bluebloods? NU is a has been, Texas is overrated and Oklahoma is headed the way of Nebraska.

Considering that Since 1980, Texas has 1 NC, Oklahoma has 2 NC and Nebraska has 3 NC, I would not consider any bluebloods just has been

Since 1980, UGA has 3 NC, LSU has 3 NC, Florida has 3 NC, Auburn has 1 and Tennessee has 1........ and you already know that the SEC (or future SEC teams when the conference was formed)averages 2-3 NC per decade since 1900 (except the 1900's and the 1980's were the SEC won 1)

Very similar numbers,,,,,, if you want to consider UT, OU and NU bluebloods, then the SEC has 5 more

What type of road game crowds/environments is OU used to? Biggest game of the year was always Texas..neutral site. @OSU every other year seems tough.

Auburn and LSU can be tough places to play.

All road games in the SEC are tough. Well, except for Vandy. But OU has won big road games throughout its history. At Ohio State a couple of times. Notre Dame in 2013, FSU in 2011, Tennessee in 2015, Nebraska during the rivalry years, neutral sites are Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, Auburn in the Sugar, Florida in the Cotton.

I don’t think Venables will win enough to coach OU long term but I think OU will definitely find the right coach again and be consistent contenders

We feel like we have the right guy. Saban seems to agree, and he strikes me as someone that might know.

Yeah that was my only point. I couldn’t find a single season (maybe 1) in the last 10 years where you’ve played at two environments the equivalent of LSU and Auburn in the same year.

The players seem excited about it. More tv exposure, more competitive. The best kids want to play in the best environments against the best competition, and that's what the SEC offers. Who the hell wants to travel to Kansas or Waco to play a football game?

We're looking forward to it, and I hope the legacy schools are excited to play OU.

Ole Teddy is going to be a fantastic watch when you all are 1-4 in the SEC looking down the barrel at a rabid @ Mizzou, Bama, @ LSU to end the season.

That’s the difference in the SEC. In other conferences you can have a down year and go .500 in conference. In the SEC you’ll go 2-6 and gut your staff prematurely which creates a self-induced vacuum of panic.

Well, he was a two time All-American, won a Butkus award and played in the NFL. Surely he knows something about football.

Notice how he specified "3-4 years."

Why?

Cuz going back 5 would've made his pointless post even more pointless.

So what does he know about the SEC? The LSU fans went to kindergarten, but we don’t consider them scholars.

He trashed those teams but failed to recognize that OU has had turnover and done Jack shite in a much weaker conference.

Florida- 2
LSU- 3
Bama- 6
Georgia- 2
Auburn- 1

Since OU won their last national title.
