I have never agreed with Bama recognizing 1941. With that said, IMO 1941 Minnesota is right up there with 1984 BYU as the most undeserving NC in history. Minnesota played but 3 teams with a winning record in 1941. None with over 6 wins. Bama played 8 teams with a winning record. Six of them with 8 or more wins.

The Houlgate system weighed very heavily the Bowl games and this is where Bama proved to him that they were the best team. He didn't have to look very far or very long to find a team better than Minnesota. The Texas A&M team that Bama beat in the Cotton Bowl had lost but 2 games in the previous THREE years.

Because the actual polling bodies at the times awarded those. Because those polls don’t exist anymore doesn’t mean they didn’t happen. We also have 18 fyi.

If u count things like the New York Times (as auburn wanted to do for their 1983 team) USA Today and sports illustrated we have like 30.

If u disagree with Alabamas 18 that were awarded by the polls of the time you also have to disagree with a bunch from usc, notre dame, Michigan, etc
Go tell a usc fan they only have 2004 and see what they say. Tell a notre dame fan they only have 66, 73, 77 and 88 and see what they say. They are both gonna send you back to the 1920s forward.

Exactly. Even in 1941, Houlgate was a long standing, well respected award. The AP poll was but 5 years old and anyone who belonged to the AP could vote. Hell, my uncle was a small business owner in the Birmingham area and he was a member and voted.

The NCAA is not involved in awarding national championships in FBS football. AT ALL.

If anyone believes otherwise, show me the guidelines and rules they follow to do so. They do not exist.

This is just an article written by a random author named Daniel Wilco.

Nothing in this thread nor the OP link indicates the NCAA awarded any of those football championships.

Apparently you can't read the title of the thread then.

apparently not according to ncaa.com

Some places list Alabama with like 25 or whatever, but I don't buy that either. I guess an unbiased source like ncaa.com is as good as any way to measure it so I'll just go with what they list. Another way would be to measure since the 2 major polls started AP and UPI/Coaches poll. Or measure since the playoffs began as far as I care. Any way you measure it, Alabama has more than any other team since the Ivy League teams were playing rugby type football back in the 1800's

We have as many as Oklahoma in their entire history since 1992, and that's not including Bear's 6, or Frank Thomas, or...

Jealousy will tear your arse up. You better get used to being second fiddle if you're moving to the SEC.

So how many does Auburn have according to your method? Hint: it's more than 2.

No trophy was awarded, therefore no championship, imo.

If we counted every National Championship that has ever been awarded to Alabama football, we'd be counting far more than 16. 16 is a reasonable number.
