It's the same trophy. The Coaches' Trophy has been awarded since 1986. It was the same trophy under the Bowl Coalition (1992-1995), Bowl Alliance (1995-1997), and more recently the Bowl Championship Series (1998-current).

That's really just tacky, but I doubt it's any use explaining that to you.

Why? It's been a theme that has been brought up continually by the players on Alabama's roster.

That's fine, and I think the tornado is something we should all reflect on and remember. But using it in the context of a competitive thread as a "pro" for a football team just misses the point, I think.

It would be one thing if the fans were pushing it, but the leaders on this Alabama team have seemingly used it as motivation in some regards. They've also continually mentioned the loss of Aaron Douglass.

Ok,to LSU fans. Just exactly how MANY more National Titles has your team won than the Crimson Tide has? Is it more,or less? Since you're on the subject

I just think the context of this thread falls into that category, but it's worth stopping here because the tornado was a tragedy and I don't want to be misunderstood as thinking it was anything less.

Well after this weekend LSU will have faced 2 SEC teams without their starting QB. Does this count towards destiny?

Well considering we beat six teams who played against a team without it's original starting quarterback ------- yes it does count

IDK, I like to think LSU rallied after Katrina and had a great year...but because it happened during the season and the effects were immediate. Problem with the Tornado thing is that it happened 6-7mos ago (NOT making light of the tragedy at all, just commenting on the time frame). Rallying tends to rely on recency. Bama has had some time to recover (ONCE AGAIN, not making the topic trivial.)

I haven't seen any LSU fans claiming we have more. They only point to discrepancies of your counting and what qualifies as an actual national title.

The ones that we have every right to claim are the poll Titles: 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, & 2009. ALL poll era Titles. Either coaches, AP, or both. Then we have 1925, 1930, & 1934. All undefeated and untied Rose Bowl Championship teams. 1926 we were undefeated but tied in the Rose Bowl. All those years we do have a legit claim to them, but its not like we are the only ones. Every year back then can be disputed regarding National Titles. But we were named National Champs back during those years by many organizations. 1941 I won't even try to defend. Its stupid

Bama's last two cystals have all been undefeated, untied, Bowl championships. No other team has more.

LSU claims a two loss championship and Split title with USC. Eventhough USC was #1 in the coaches and AP poll going into the bowl games.

You lost to UK and Arky and were given a championship. You dodged USC eventhough they were #1 in both polls in 03 also.

LSU has no right to dispute championships with bama. The audacity of fans of a wanna be program.

I believe Nebraska's 3 crystals from '94, '95, and '97 are all undefeated/untied teams

Those championships are something to be proud of. Don't get me wrong. But what sets the BCS era championships apart are that they are all #1 vs #2 match ups. Of course it can be debated who should have been #2, but at least the BCS attempts to match the two highest ranked teams, thus giving the championship more relavancy than having beat the #5 team in a bowl game and then awarded the championship. It's like the NFL in a way. Many NFL championships were won before the first Super Bowl. But NFL teams are compared by how many Super Bowls they have won.

And just like this year and in some super bowls the two best teams dont always play on the biggest stage. Sometimes they play before.
