No because Sumlin has a unique system, it just takes a quarterback with a quick release. You don't have to be Manziel to be successful in a Sumlin offense.

And regardless, they have the #1 high school quarterback in the country coming in, there won't be a huge drop off once Manziel leaves.

Johnny Brantley was the #1 QB recruit. Gatorade Player of the Year...

However that was a case of round peg, square hole.

A&M will be fine. JFF has been huge for them, and it'll benefit them down the road. Their offense will not be quite the same, but it'll be potent. I expect they'll fix the defense issues as things move forward.

In the SEC it's all about coaching. Sumlin's been a winner, and he'll keep winning. If he leaves, they'll have the same problem everyone else does. Bama and LSU people know there are no guarantees when Saban and Miles leave.

A lot of their success can be attributed to Sumlin, so while there will be a dropoff at QB, they probably won't fall off the map.

Can we really be 100% certain of that? Not saying he's not a good coach, but is he an 11+ wins in the SEC type coach?

We have seen Sumlin without Manziel. He guided Houston to a BCS win.

Which bowl was that?

A BCS win? Better check your facts. With that said Sumlin is a much better coach than Chizik and they will always have an explosive offense. I don't think there will be as much of a drop off. I think losing Evans is tougher. But he has to be careful not to fall in to the Texas Tech mold of all offense no defense. If he can do that he will be fine. I think this year he will probably finish 10-2, and 9-3 next year. Have to remember that both Bama and LSU lose their starting QB's as well

My bad. You're right. I was think that 13-1 team that beat Penn State went to a BCS bowl, but it did not. My mistake.

Evans hurts but Ricky Seals Jones will help. Other than that right on.

A&M's offensive success has helped with defensive recruiting, across the board in the state the last two years defensive players are signing up for A&M. This is something that hasn't happened in well over a decade. A&M has effectively cut OU out of Texas and with the concurrent drop in Texas it has given a window of opportunity for A&M to get a larger share of the defensive talent. It used to be A&M's season was made or loss by a Rod Wright. Nowadays it's being made with serious talent signing up across the board.

Sumlin has to continue this trend line. But if he does it's a bright future.
